kelvin31063
Since Austin Hooper obviously isn't ready for the limelight maybe we can bring a veteran TE in that has actually been at the top of the game within his position to learn behind. With, that Martellus Bennett is available and I think he'd be an upgrade over what we have now. We know there's little Toilolo can teach Hooper that he can't already learn from Matthews or Mack. Our lack or willingness to go after known names hurts us almost every year... at this point why not just bring him in to finish the season. How much could it impact seriously? WisFalcon
No to Bennett for me.. I’m up here in GB territory and the fans up here would rather have hooper than Bennett. Everyone up here trashes bennett
WisFalcon
He had serious drop issues and questions on his motivation/work ethic. GB went out and got that name like you mention we don’t do.. here we are half way through the season and he’s cut. Hoopers had his issues. He's dropped some catches he should have made. Isn't necessarily all that great a blocker.... I wonder if the people who are ready to give up on him already are the descendants of the people who were ready to give up on Tony G his second year. Also, before anyone makes any rididuculous assumptions there, no, I'm NOT saying Austin is the next Tony, because we can't possibly know that yet either way
kelvin31063
Well if its his work ethic he'll do us no good but I do believe we need to pull the gun on a veteran free agent... this just may not be the one to do so with.

I would bring in Bennett for no other reason than this offense does so much better with 3 TE sets and I think we are really missing Tamme more than some would lead on. Bennett does seem to be coasting, and he does seem to be struggling with drops this season, but he is an outstanding inline blocker and has shown he can be an above average TE. I don't know how bad the injury is, that obviously would change the scope a bit, but as a flier for a team that is struggling to find it's way especially on the offensive side of the ball, he may be worth a look. Barnidge would have been worth a look. I just don't get how the position as a whole has gone unaddressed after Tamme's departure. I hope it is addressed this upcoming offseason. As I have said, Hooper has potential, but I don't know about #1 TE potential at this point.
papachaz
again tho ahell, isn't bennett battling a shoulder injury? why would we want to bring in someone who's injured?
kschreck
If dude wasn't motivated for the Packers, I'm not sure what about our situation is going to ignite his passion.

Yeah, I don't know the extent of it. If he is that damaged, then no don't bring him in. I don't know the specifics. My point remains though that we need SOMEONE at the position opposite Hooper. It still baffles me Barnidge is a FA and not in black and red. idgi

I wish these boards had some sort of topic filtering though where it would notify you if your thread title matched in anyway other threads before posting. There is so many duplicate threads. falcndave
As noted in THIS thread, MB is one of 5 TE with a higher drop rate than Hooper.

Osiruz
I think AuStinks Hooper has as many drops as Bennet, strangely he is only credited with 2.
jay1k2
I think Tamme would help right about now
