FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. -- Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Julio Jones sat out practice Wednesday while nursing an ankle injury although he did participate in the team's walkthrough.

Jones said "I'll be all right" when asked last Sunday about the injury, suffered in a 20-17 loss at Carolina. He hasn't missed a game yet this season despite showing up on the injury report already this year with back and hip flexor injuries.

Jones, who leads the Falcons with 43 receptions for 658 yards (one touchdown), has 352 total offensive snaps through eight games, averaging 44 snaps per game. He played a season-low 14 snaps during a Week 4 loss to Buffalo, when he didn't return in the second half after suffering the hip flexor injury.

Kicker Matt Bryant didn't kick Wednesday while recovering from a right calf injury aggravated last week during pre-game warm-ups. The Falcons signed kicker Mike Meyer to the practice squad Wednesday. The 42-year-old Bryant hasn't missed a game this season, although he previously dealt with a back injury.

Running back Devonta Freeman, who said he took a hit to the neck and also had the wind knocked out of him against Carolina, showed up as limited due to a knee injury. Freeman went through individual drills at the beginning of practice.

Also limited were cornerback Desmond Trufant (ankle), defensive tackle Grady Jarrett (ribs), and defensive end Takk McKinley (shoulder).

Coach Dan Quinn said rookie linebacker Duke Riley, who underwent surgery in October to repair a meniscus tear in his knee, is closer to a return. Riley went through rehab exercises on a side field on Wednesday, wearing a compression sock on his left leg.

The 4-4 Falcons host the 5-3 Dallas Cowboys on Sunday.

He is a great WR but get ready for.

Play one play then limp off the field stand on the sidelines with hands on hips tryng to walk it off sometimes during a crucial 3rd down rinse and repeat.

If only we could spread the ball around to Sanu, Gabriel, Hardy, Hooper, Tolo, Freeman, Coleman, Williams, Hall etc  like last year and let Julio properly heal when he gets dinged up but it seems to be impossible now. Last year Ryan threw to 13 different receivers this year he can't find 3.
