This organization has become smug and arrogant after their playoff run and do you know what the Sad part is?  They became that way after FAILING to win the prize.  You can allow a Little smugness and arrogance after winning a Superbowl and people will forgive it (Look at the Patriots) but this team with this history and all of a sudden we are smarter than everyone else?  No.  I cannot fathom being smug and arrogant while the team continues to loose against inferior talent!

Sark was a mistake

Not signing Freeny was a mistake

Not taking a flyer on Navarro Bowman was a mistake

Not making a move at the deadline was mistake.

Getting rid of your veteran and accomplished coaches from last year's successfull season was a collosal mistake!

Duke Riley as a starting linebacker was and still is a mistake.

The mistakes are many and well documented and it amazes me how some people are content to be spoon fed morsels of honey covered $hit from an organization that has clearly lost its way!

A bit of honesty would be appreciated by everyone here.  I have had it with the Quinnisms.  I have had it with blaming the refs, the weather, and the football gods!

The only blame for this debacle rests on Dan Quinn and the Falcons braintrust  who went from a high flying circus act to a travelling carnival of clowns!

Sad but some truth. Brought it up during preseason when many in here were predicting easy pickings 16-0...

Fan predictions have nothing to do with the organization. Making mistakes doesn't equal arrogant. Not making a move at the deadline was a mistake? How can a hypothetical move that doesn't exist be a mistake?

The person sounding smug and arrogant here is op

Respectfully disagree. Team obviously came into this season overconfident...too talented a team making too many glaring errors in basic fundamentals to say otherwise. This season’s performances (so far) hasn’t been about ‘mistakes’, it’s been about a culture of dumb penalties, dropped passes, running poor routes, missed blocking assignments, poor tackling technique, poor coaching decisions....etc etc etc....

It’s been an attitude issue, and you could see it in preseason if paying attention...and every single falcon player and coach needs to be looking in the mirror.

Not true at all.  This team plays too poorly to be smug & arrogant & I certainly don't see smugness coming from anyone really.

If you want to call the fans who were yelling 16-0 maybe your point would have a tinge of merit, but I couldn't read much into it due to the given premise.

I think you really have to evaluate each player separately.  There are different things going on with different players.  Some of them are playing very well.

Disagree....there will always be a few good performers on every team...see Cleveland and joe Thomas for years...but to win, you also have to evaluate team chemistry and culture, leadership and coaching.

Thank you! Some of us could just say “I’ve had it with rants by people who think their opinions are worth more than they really are”

:ninja:;)

100% correct.  Odd that a team that sh*t the bed in the biggest game in franchise history has the nerve to get smug.  They bought into their own marketing bullsh*t and now look like complete frauds.

Some of the things you listed are mistakes but I don't believe they occurred because the organization became smug and arrogant. I don't believe that for a second.

Yea, I think that the actual team does suffer from overconfidence but I don't know that the personnel "mistakes" are due to overconfidence or smugness.

Teams typically try to get younger and TD has always sought to do that in the past. (Thinking about Konz replacing McClure among other moves) With what we're seeing I think it's fair to question whether these were the best decisions but I wouldn't put that on smugness as much as just miscalculating.  Again.

I think that most of the mistakes that we talk about here (stupid personal fouls, lazy routes, missed blocks) typically come from not being focused versus not believing in yourself.  That's why I tend to think it's more an overconfidence thing.

Every week we see and hear these guys essentially shrug it off like they're not worried.  (Not so much after Carolina though).  I really think that as much as the SB hurt these guys knew they should have won it and with a ton of young guys they kind of stopped paying attention to the details.

Yeah I just think the idea that the team is smug and arrogant is way off base.

This team is suffering a terrible crisis in confidence among a number of the players and coaches.  Quinn is doing his best to keep a calm demeanor to right this ship.

Maybe he is doing a terrible job as coach, I think we have to see the rest of the season to see how it turns out, but I think the idea that this team is arrogant is the exact opposite of the truth right now.

You forgot

Not re-signing Dimarco

Letting two Shanahan assistants Lafluer and company walk. The Falcons happily let the offensive staff leave for other positions so they could hire Sarkisian, who never coordinated in the pros.

These are turning out to be the two biggest screwups.

You know, I could understand not signing DiMarco for all that cash.  His replacement has just left a lot to be desired.  Even if he doesn't get a ton of snaps.  I have to think that we get some of those short yardage situations last game if DiMarco is there.

I don't know. This REALLY reads like the OP is just into his/her feelings about this season and pulled this "smug & arrogant" stuff out of their a$$ just to drive an opinion about what THEY think and feel.

Just my observation. I may be wrong, but I certainly don't get that sense from this team. Not enough to make such a bold declaration anyway.
