Screen passes

Amazing and sad,  what we're seeing just months after such a great season, isn't it?

DAN QUINN needs a psychiatric treatment.

Loss to Patriots 2x in 3 years in S.B

Hes seriously lost his marbles! I work with top psychiatric counseling co here in Los Angeles and we can prove it without a doubt Dan Quinn & Falcons need mental therapy.....sad but, its the truth!

You watch them on sidelines , and you cant see a team whos playing with passion and enjoying it.

It feels like this is their daily chore, a serious grind and they all are soo uptight.

They are not in the moment team...they are stuck in past, and moment they get out of it they try to overachieve long term goals.

Yeah, was referring to the wr screens Shannahan ran last year. That and the play action Sark dosnt seem to understand

To be fair, the Falcons have scored a couple TDs and had some success with the WR screens. My biggest gripe is that Gabriel seems to be the only target of these screens (and sometimes Tevin), so they are easy to read at this point. Gotta get Julio the ball in these situations more. Short passes to Julio to let him get YAC needs to be more of an emphasis.

Weird, I feel like we're running too many screens. They're easy to read (or called at bad times in the game) and get blown up. We need to just beat the other team and stop trying to get cute. And run the ball on 3'rd and short.

I agree to an extent.   I think the problem is the line blocking more than anything.  That's a critical part of the screen.

Personally - I'd love to see them throw to Julio on a few slant routes.  It's such a hard pass to defend.    Jerry Rice made a living off of slant routes.   Julio would thrive.

Depends on the screen pass. With the WR screens the WR's gotten dropped by DB's before the line has anything to do with it. On the HB screen I think it's situation and construction. Our screen passes worked fine when we did them last year (Though we didn't do them often). Our line didn't forget how to do it.

I want more slants period, you're completely right. I'm tired of the comebacks and outs that DB's are just sitting on. We had a number of nice catches out of slants this week, we should do it more. Sark is definitely still settling into some things (We can hope).

True enough - that's why Gabe's been getting targeted so much on screens - that speed.   I just feel like both Coleman and Freeman are great in the screen.   Can't forget Free's TD against NO last year or even the last TD in the SB to Coleman.

But I'm with you - slants.   Julio would see the end zone a lot more if he got more slants.

Sigh.

It's frustrating how many plays I simply think are bad calls this year. I didn't even do that with Koetter. 3'rd and short with one of the best running games in the NFL? Let's pass it. Incomplete. Same situation next game? Pass it. Incomplete. Same thing next game? You get it. Backup up on the goalline? I scream every time for a playaction pass. I love that call. We just run it, or straight pass it which is also pretty bad. Screen passes on 3'rd down and anything but really long? I just don't like it. Too vanilla route combos. I'm running out of excuses for Sark, which worries me. I hope it's rookie stuff.

I knew there would be an adjustment period.   First, this is not his playbook - he's had to learn it.   Not the norm for an OC.   Second, he's new to the NFL.   Third, they have to get to know each other really learn what works.

I've been patient because I know it's not as vanilla and easy as they made it out to be.  It's like learning a new language.   He understands the concept - and he knows the WCO, but that doesn't mean he can speak it with ease in the language of Shanahan.

It took Shanahan a year to get the players on board - but that was with them having to learn an entirely new system.   I'm not sure how long it takes an OC to learn the new language and the players.   I sort of hoped it would take them about half a season - and that's now.

I'd like to see him open it up some - and get some of those plays that work so well in the game.    We've got some great weapons.   Admittedly, they are playing shell-shocked this year - but if they could just spark a little - I think it would help bring them back to the here and now - and we'd start winning these games.

It's been a tough year for us all I think.

sigh.

Our screens half the time get blown tf up.

We called a terribly designed one against the Jets on third and 2. Free went across the formation after the snapped and telegraphed to the whole defense we were running a screen. Most screens I recall are called at bad times and are snuffed out by the defense.

I guess you have missed the handful of screens to the rbs we’ve ran that have been blown out of the water every time...

What I've noticed is they are not very good at selling it as well as certain other plays too. The entire team is so off of their game that it's very sad to watch. I'm hoping a full complete offseason with players and coaches working on the playbook and timing will correct this mess.
