Often I’ll see a guy like Cousins or the newest QB like Watson and go “Ryan is so average,” but the reality is all greats are consistently good to great. That’s what makes a QB elite. The ability to perform at a high level for a long time.

He’s averaging 263/game this year and only needs 455 over the next 3 to get there.

Even in an age of great passers this is amazing.

First in a ground and pound, play action (mularkey) , the Koehler screen years, shanny’s great scheme (albeit his worst and best years occurred with Shanny), now Sark. Yeah, it’s pretty incredible how he’s adjusted to each one. Brady never had to change systems as far as I know. But I wasn’t even referring to that. I just meant we should have won in 2012 if Smith didn’t have us playing scared the second half and definitely last year if Shannahan had just played scared for the last two drives (which simple math screamed to do) If you combine Smith and Shanny into one person, you have the perfect football coach. SamMills51
I mean the only reason you were in the Jets game was thanks to Matt Ryan’s pocket presence and making something out of nothing. I thought Sarkisian did his best effort to make the Falcons lose with some of those terrible calls.

7979
I think if Ryan ever had a top 10 D on the other side, he would have a few rings. Speaking of OC’s.........I think Ryan is long past the point of running the O at the LOS. Turn Matt loose.

The Jets game is a great example of why his yards are adding up. If ever there was a formula to end his 200 ypg streak (longest current), the monsoon bombing out over this game was it. He couldn't hold a snap from center, yet he was accurate on almost every though. Despite the fact that the WR/TEs were dropping more than usual, he still put up one of his best efforts in terms of accuracy. He has performed decently well outdoors his entire career. They can call us a dome team if they want, but we have an all weather QB.

Why do you guys keep going with knucklehead OCs and schemes?

Also bringing it back to Ryan, his mental makeup and intangibles have helped him thrive and survive despite massive change. anazing how one (cam) is far more gifted physically than Matt. Yet, Cam isn’t even close to Ryan as a complete and elite QB.

Yet, Cam isn’t even close to Ryan as a complete and elite QB. I know. Athletic ability for a QB is one of the most overrated things. Mentality is everything. Work ethic, intelligence, decision making, maturity, etc. The best QBs of all time were not known to be athletic freaks. Montana, Manning, Brady, etc. Even the most consistent QBs in the NFL today have one thing in common, consistency. And that’s because of their mental game.
