fuego
After the Atlanta Falcons suffered a number of prominent injuries to their front seven, head coach Dan Quinn admitted that he would consider bringing back veteran defensive lineman Dwight Freeney. Even earlier this year, during the offseason, general manager Thomas Dimitroff revealed that he, too, would evaluate a potential Freeney return, should the team have suffered enough injuries, and when recalling the boost he gave the team during their run up to Super Bowl XLI last season. But more than a month later, the defending NFC champions held out too long and Freeney eventually signed on with the Seattle Seahawks after Cliff Avril was placed on the injured reserve with a neck injury. According to Freeney, Atlanta did show interest. Just not enough, according to Dave Mahler of Sportsradio 950 KJR (Seattle). That the Falcons apparently had a shot at bringing Freeney back may rub a lot of people in Atlanta the wrong way, especially when considering that Dan Quinn said the team “wasn’t close” to doing any deals near the trade deadline. Clearly, Quinn is happy with his team as is heading into division play this week. https://247sports.com/nfl/atlanta-falcons/Bolt/Dwight-Freeney-says-Atlanta-Falcons-dragged-their-feet-on-re-signing-him-109841714?utm_source=247Sports Newsletter&utm_medium=Newsletter&utm_campaign=171102_133408_Atlanta Falcons Newsletter&utm_content=Link&liveconnect=54-B4-70-A5-B4-87-62-3B-31-5A-53-1A-1C-83-EF-DE171102_133408AtlantaFalconsNewsletter

Vandy
As good as Quinn/TD’s Plan came together last year, they’ve seemed out-of-joint from the get-go this year.
A Dog Named Brian
If we didn't have Takk, I'd be more upset about us not jumping on the opportunity to bring him back. Wish Freeney well in Seattle
AmaZze
I think it says a good message that you have to practice to play. No special treatments.
FentayeJones
I can see the rational of not signing Freeney. Rubin was more of a need than Freeney. The Falcons needed interior dline help much more than on the outside - they were thin there.

Right now....you are correct...but Freeney should have been on this team long before we realized we needed Rubin

Butudontseeme™
Dragged their feet=didn't really want him unless there was an emergency. Would have liked to see him back just for his ability to mentor young Takk and Beasley

It’s true. The great things that Cornelius Bennett and L. Malloy brought into our lockeroom was leadership and a winning mindset. I said we needed Freeney 4 months ago but most said with all our young talent there was no place for him. Our defense is improved from last year, but not from the unit that played the last 7 games last year. If you need proof of Freeney’s value, watch the SB

Which is more likely a team winning and getting on track or a guy who just showed up putting their locker room back together? I get it you wanted Freeny but a guy who has ZERO ties to a team before getting there isn't instantly fixing a locker room. That team's at eat other's throat when things go bad and hugging when it's going well. Edited November 2, 2017 by Malachore

You spell a gassed Takk and Beasley. Or you even get crazy on nickel and sneak Takks manic *** inside. I don’t get 4 things this year: 1) lack of stable of speed pass rushers. We’re talking DQ, who had at different times Avril, Clemons, Irvin and Bennett and even Marsh...on a team about speed why so few race horses? 2) Midget WRs after Sanu and Jones. Come on, DQ/TD. Shanny leaves all the space plays and crazy motions gone and you run go routes with Gabriel, Hardy and Williams? At least draft already or sign a Move TE. 3) Rico. Where’s all his lovers now? He’s been exposed. He sucks. He’s limited, other teams know it and it’s a huge weakness 4) you have two of the best rbs in space and wide stretch plays but you run gut plays and switch out every series. If Sark wanted a big back, why the heck sign Free to $40m? Not too mention, you paid the dude premier rb money, run his azz 300 carries. Waste of cash and maybe Free can do it. Not sure we’ll ever know. @Knight of God and @Vandy any adds?

The Astros coach & GM both said yesterday the fact that his jersey was hanging in the locker (before he even arrived in Houston) transformed the lockeroom. Added a pep in their step. Maybe they are lying...but I see no reason why they would.

The players weren't fighting and then said "oh **** we got Freeny we're better now". The Astros were not in any clubhouse turmoil internally. They were upset with the FO.
