Not that this is the same Panther team, it most certainly ISNT, nor is this the same Newton, it most definitely is NOT, but Carolina went 15-1 and Cam won MVP without him in 2015. They never needed him.

He is their leading receiver this year by around 100 yards, I could understand if he wasn't producing but this trade seems crazy especially with Olsen out. Oh well better for us this weekend.

Doesn't he lead their team in receiving tds this year though?

We def better win this Sunday now

I mean, Kelvin is Kelvin but it's not like he was the key piece for them beating us.  Nor do I trust our team to feel that confident in beating ANYONE right now let alone a divisional opponent with an excellent defense at home.

Glad he's gone but don't know if this moves the line at all really in the grand scheme.

You sure said a mouthful there, brother.

I wish I coulda been a fly on the wall during the strategy session with Rivera on this one.  I mean they're already bereft of outside weapons.  Guess they're going full time throw to the tight ends, check it down to the backs, pound it 45 times a game.  They might come out there and run straight wing-t Sunday.

Its getting hard to figure out what they want to be offensively.

32 475 yards and 2 tds in 8 games. Their OC is worse than ours. Targeting this guy or having him as the primary has been futile in the majority of games this season. Their offense as a whole is uncoordinated and not properly utilized. They dont need Benjamin. They need a new OC.

edit: Hes been held to 4 catches or less and 0 tds with 65 yards max 6 times this year. Wouldnt call that producing. No one on that offense is really.

They have Samuel, Christian, Funchess, and Clay. They are going more speed and have Funchess who is a TE-Like WR like Kelvin. Get something out of Kelvin, go with a run and deep threat type offense.

They are in true rebuild mode at this point.

That Benjamin hasn’t done jack against us.

or

2:40 mark.  He's done "jack" against us even if that's not a 10 catch 150 yard game and Tru has struggled with him in the past...and that's when he was playing well overall.  This with a season lost after that ACL tear.

Like someone said, doesn't change much as I still expect it to be a typical rivalry game but I'm not gonna pretend he didn't pose issues for our secondary.

I guess so.  Smaller and faster.  Strange adjustment to make dead in the middle of the season, though.  Especially with the way that defense is playing right now.

I actually like Funchess... a lot.  I like those big, physical receivers.  I can only assume they've seen enough out of the rest of those guys in practice to feel comfortable putting them outside opposite Funch because I don't know much about them.

This move does smack of a team in rebuild mode, though, which makes it even more curious.

I wanted Funchess. TE/WR hybrid. You could smell a shift in the offseason. They got vet help on both lines and the secondary. Drafted speed weapons early. Both hybrid RB/WR ala Freeman/Coleman. Added new wrinkles to the game. The rest of the draft were long term projects.

Well I mean it's been established we were rebuilding ever since we talked of offensive evolution over the offseason.

But more on my thoughts on the Kelvin Benjamin dump. In my opinion, this is a really good move. Dumping Kelvin Benjamin will make our offense even better this year.

Yes, I'm being serious.

In terms of what we usually had on the field prior to this was a focus on having Funchess and Kelvin Benjamin as our primary targets while sprinkling in CMC as our only real short threat. Funchess has shown up this year a lot more than before, and I like his athleticism, route-running, and potential as a future WR1.

Kelvin Benjamin has been disappointing this season and prior. He doesn't play big, he's slow and lethargic on the field, and he lets small corners beat him. All corners have to do is line up in man to man against Kelvin Benjamin, press him, and have success.

Getting rid of him allows much better guys to come into focus. Russell Shepard has arguably been one of our better route runners and consistent guys when he's targeted his fair share. Curtis Samuel has been doing amazing with his routes and seriously needs more time.

With Kelvin Benjamin gone, we'll likely use our speedy deep threat in Curtis Samuel far more, while having Funchess take care of WR1 duties, which he more than deserves. Add in Russell Shepard and we have a new identity and varied way of attacking instead of just KB and Funchess all the time.

I like it. A whole lot.

I get it, being the most productive receive on the panties is like being valedictorian of special ed but still they just traded away their most productive receiver.

So you admit you were just blowing smoke when you were defending KB after that picture showed up of him looking like an offensive lineman in the offseason and we had jokes? :D

Before the season, I hoped it was just him coming back from his knee injury that made him bad.

Turns out he's still just as slow, lethargic, and bad at slants as ever. So, with 8 games to back up, I think this was necessary to get rid of.

Thats a creative way to put it :D I see what you mean. I guess what I mean to say is, Cam had a career year and theyve been effective without him. They arent any more or less threatening with or without him just because of how poor their play calling has been, imo. If nothing less, it frees up other guys to step up. They might find a diamond in the rough. They knew what they had in Benjamin, and it wasnt much.
