Carolina fans finding out

Same for our fans too. Tried to tell ppl these teams we faced have some of the best defenses in the nfl. The bears are a good qb away from running the north. Both miami and buffalo have great defenses. The differences in those games were self inflicting wounds. Can’t do that against good defensive teams.

You’re absolutely right. Makes me feel a lot better about where we are currently.

Oh yes. Our work is cut out this year. I don’t know why our fans thought it was gonna be a cakewalk. The main issue with our losses is playing sloppy football. If we play a clean game nobody can beat us. I truly believe that. Some teams will pose problems but if we don’t make stupider mistakes we can beat anybody.

You kinda answered your own question didn't you? Who expected the Falcons to play so dumb?

One thing is for sure, this season the NFC could field the strangest looking playoff bracket we've ever seen.

I swear to god you could throw a dart at a list of the NFC teams and with the exception of San Fran and probably Arizona, any team the dart hits could be in the Super Bowl.

Falcons are catching a break - the NFC lacks any scary teams. As of right now, the best records are Philadelphia, LA Rams, and Minnesota.

If ATL can turn it around quickly, they can still secure a bye week for the playoffs. But even if they only barely get in, winning a road playoff game isn't going to be impossible.

And the Saints squeaking by a Rodgers-less Packers team

By the same token, the Saints shutting out the Dolphins who beat the Falcons. Or the Saints overcoming two early turnovers and spotty officiating (refs blew one offensive pass interference and two defensive pass interferences in addition to missing several offensive holding calls on the Packers) to tough out a 9 - point win. You could make argument it could have been a larger margin of victory if not for the two Brees’ interceptions deep in plus territory. At worse, that’s a potential 6 points lost plus the blocked extra point. And again, the refs missed two pass interference calls on Clinton Dix (in end zone) and Davon House, respectively, that resulted in New Orleans having to settle for FGs.

Point here is not to talk trash at all but to say that there are different ways to look at the outcome of each game. That is why I try not to gloat when other division rivals barely win because each game is different and better to correct any mistakes from a win than a loss. Falcons beat the Bears. It doesn’t matter if they did it by half a breath as long as they did it; I bet Carolina would love to have that same win today. Saints missed some key plays early against New England and never recovered; lost handily. What does that mean for the Falcons? Absolutely nothing because your team might blow out that same Patriots team, or at least win the game. You just never know. We blew out Carolina who beat the Pats on the road. Again, each game is different and you try to stack wins where possible and however possible against whomever you can.

Those 3 teams have awesome defenses.

A Saints fan complaining about about no holding calls? LMAO!!! That's the funniest thing I've ever read!!

Complaining, nope. Pointing it out, yes, and only to contextualize what they overcame to earn a tough win on the road. But just pay close attention to this forum if Falcons lose tonight with anything that resembles questionable officiating. There will be a lot of kvetching around these parts. Just you wait and see.

Win or lose there will be crying on this board about the officials. You're not telling me anything I don't already know.

Very true. I can certainly understand it; it happens with fans of every team—certainly mine. Thing is, no one remembers the calls, even if few, go in their team’s favor. Like today Ginn bobbled a punt and Josh Jones of the Packers took a swipe at the ballas Ginn tried to possess it. Jones was whistled for fair catch interference. It was the correct call; the NFL rule is that the player should be allowed the chance to regain control of the ball even if he bobbles it as long as he has previously signaled fair catch. To me, it is a dumb rule even though it helped my team avoid a costly turnover. But in all the complaints about officiating, this call is unlikely to be mentioned as something that undermined the Packers.

Well we're also finding out we're the only NFC South team that can beat the Patriots, apparently, and the only one with a perfect record against the AFC East so far.

But ironically, we lost to the Bears by self-inflicted wounds. Throughout the whole game, we dominated them. We couldn't finish even with a historical day from our defense. Costly mistakes led to their win and us never building back momentum.
