And the offense is ranked 5th, but the Falcons still took a humiliating loss yesterday regardless.

Last year through 5 games - 28ppg

This year were only at 21.8ppg

Our D is playing pretty lights out...even without the sacks and int's. If we dont learn to control the ball for longer stretches tho, its going to get reeeeeal sideways in the next few weeks

Costly penalties by Alford and Jarrett. The D also got gashed in the run game too. The D is every bit as much to blame.

How do you get a 17-0 lead and not make the other offense one-dimensional?  MAKE them pass the ball (or ****, make them run it -- whatever).  We just let them do whatever they wanted.  Run, pass -- the only common denominator is it all worked and if it didn't we'd bail them out with a penalty (or the refs would).

Ajayi ran for like triple his previous season average.

Okay, a little more than double, but still.

Plenty of problems on defense too.

It's been mentioned several times since the game but it's definitely a team wide issue.  Offense, defense, special teams- noone is playing well right now as a unit.

The offense didn't really give the defense a break that it needed.  The offense went 3 and out in the 3rd quarter just after the Dolphins took over half the quarter in that first drive of the 2nd half.  I blame the offense more than the defense in this situation but the defense still shouldn't of allowed that long of a drive.

I figure 2 TD and a FG was a decent break a that's more than Miami scored on one game until now.

The offense built a 17-0 lead and the Dolphins scored 20 unanswered points.

How is god's name is that not the defense's fault?

17-0 is not just the work of the offense. That's the defense holding them without a point as well. The problem in the second half is pretty clear. Multiple 3 and outs by your offense will tire out a defense fast. Penalties will kill a team. Those are the things that lost the game yesterday.

That was in the 1st half.  The defense got no break in the 3rd quarter.  The offense had 1 drive in the 3rd quarter and they went 3 and out on that drive therefore giving the defense no break.  However the defense should have never given up an 8 minute drive to start the 2nd half but the offense should have done their job by holding onto the ball for more than 3 plays.

Considering our offense cant sustain a drive or put it in the endzone every time we touch the ball, our D has to spend more time on the field. And allows less points.

In their defense, cutler was getting rid of the ball quick. Like really quick.

I have been saying for years. It is a team sport. You have to stop the other team from scoring. If the Offense puts up 14 and the defense allows 17. The offense needed to score again and the defense allowed a point too many.

Complimentary football is what it’s all about.  Unfortunately all 3 phases declared war on one another last Sunday.  No compliments, just f bombs.  The Dolphins 17 play scoring drive was our downfall.  Miami gained confidence and the defense was gassed.

The D came out of halftime with a 17 point lead and gave up a 9 minute plus TD drive. I’m going to say the defense didn’t give the offense enough chances in this contest.

Yeah, the offense went 3 and out too. But the start of the decline was the defense not being able to stop anything and letting them play keep away.

The Dolphins first drive after halftime was 9+ minutes. There were 2 3 and outs by the offense in the second half. The Dolphins second touchdown was aided by Grady Jarrett.

lets not give special teams a pass either.

2 really poor punts, a snap that hits a players hand with no punt attempt at midfield and robinson pulling a weems and running ball out of end zone on final drive costing us 12 yards and about 8 seconds.

Andre Roberts has been awful, IMO.

Yeah but in the second half of games this season the defense is ranked 27th and the offense is ranked 29th.

The team starts the games off playing pretty good but then fall apart in the second half, both offensively and defensively.

Because you can’t score unanswered points if you’re answered. Kind of a simple concept

The offenses we have played SUCK.

Miami is ranked dead last (we allowed +40 more yards than they average),

Buffalo is ranked second to last (we allowed +40 more yards than they average).

Detroit is ranked fifth to last (allowed +20 more yards than they average),

Chicago is ranked 26 (held them to their average)

and Green bay is ranked 22nd (allowed +60 more yards than they average)

Only team we held below their average in yards was Chicago, by 1 yard. The only team we held below their average in points is Greenbay. Truth is, this is not an impressive defense. At best we are middle of the pack... and that is an optimistic take to be honest.

Offense got the blame against the Dolphins, but the defense allowed them to control tempo throughout the entire game, and especially take over momentum and turn the game around in the third quarter. During our first half "shut-out" the truth is that Miami was moving the ball at will and probably should have scored at least 9 points if it weren't for two turnover on downs and an interception on our side of the field. I don't think our defense forced a three and out the entire game, I'm actually pretty sure there was no drive were Miami didn't pick up at least a couple of first downs. Miami executed their game plan exactly the way the wanted after deferring the kickoff and they milked every possession while our defense was completely helpless for most of the day. When our offense took the field for the first time in the third quarter, almost a full hour had passed since Matt Ryan had taken a snap. That is a HUGE advantage to the very talented Miami defense that came out pumped after their offense had put them right back in the game. After the three and out that ensued (first play sack doomed the drive) the defense needed to answer with a quick stop and instead allowed another long drive and Touchdown. That was by far the most key stretch in the game and it was 100% on the defense.
