Alex Mack named PFF Offensive Player of the Week

Mack getting the recognition he deserves.  Here is the text from the article:

The Atlanta Falcons offense started to look scary again Sunday night. That’s due in large part to the offensive line. After a rocky start to his 2017 campaign, second year guard Wes Schweitzer got his act together, playing admirably against what was admittedly a banged up Green Bay Packers defensive front.

Schweitzer survived that test because to his left was otherworldly center Alex Mack. Mack had one heck of game, and now his hard work is being recognized. Pro Football Focus named him their offensive player of the week. This is what they had to say:

Alex Mack makes the team of the week for the second consecutive round of games, and this week is named PFF’s offensive player of the week for his performance against the Packers. Mack didn’t allow a single pressure across 32 pass blocking snaps , but it was his work in the run game springing Falcons backs on zone runs that was his most masterful work.

Mack has been nothing short of amazing since he joined the Falcons in free agency. After forcing Matt Ryan to work with some questionable NFL talent following Todd McClure’s departure, the Falcons undoubtedly got this one right.

There starting tackles were scratched the last minute.

Yeah, more relevant to Mack's performance is that we lost our starting right tackle on the first drive of the game - and put a guy in there who we just picked up during the week.    During the game, we lost 2 starting defensive players and our starting right guard - and you never even hear it mentioned.   Green Bay's water boy stubbed his toe and suddenly that's why Atlanta played well against them.

So how come all we heard coming into this game was that now we were facing a healthy Packers team and now that we beat them - they had a "banged up" defensive front?

Same as in the NFCCG, when all week leading up to game we heard how brilliant AR12 was and how he was willing GB to victory. Only to hear after their loss that he was suffering from flu like symptoms.

Pretty sure that's gonna be Collinsworth, Stephen A Smith, and Skip Bayless' takes this week

From MMQB Most Valuable Possession:

As I explained last week, we’re beginning a new section of the column called My MVP, as part of The MMQB’s partnership with State Farm. Each week, I’ll ask an NFL figure about his most valuable possession. (State Farm’s campaign mantra this year revolves around their customers’ most valuable possessions.)

This week’s MVP: Falcons center Alex Mack. “It’s my watch,” he said, showing it off to me in the Falcons locker room recently: the Omega Seamaster CMT GoodPlanet. [Retail value: about $5,100.] “I’ll tell you the story. I always wanted a nice watch. I kept thinking about it, and how much it would cost, so I kept hesitating. Then when I turned 30 [November 2015], I still hadn’t bought the watch, but I decided it was time. For me, after waiting for so long to get it, even though it was expensive, it was time I bought it for myself. I’m really happy with it.”

Mack, including this season, has made about $51 million in nine years playing pro football. He’s allowed to splurge on a watch.
