Can Ryan make the HOF?

If Ryan continues his average rate of production, by the time he's 38-39 he'll be one of the most statistically accomplished QB's in NFL history. Even without a ring, it would be hard to keep him out of the HoF. It's not often mentioned but longevity does go a long way. It took Kurt Warner a while to get in because he had the Fame, accolades, and stats, but didn't have the longevity. Even without the ring, Ryan will grade highly on the stats and longevity, and fairly high on the fame and accolades.

Well said. He's been remarkably consistent and if his current trajectory continues, he's in.

I love how he stepped up in that pass rush on the Hooper TD. He was confident, saw the field and made a huge play. I see no drop off in Matt's production coming this year.

Rivers doesn't have a ROY or MVP. That may hurt him, although his numbers are outstanding

i wouldn't mind seeing Phillip getting in. But I think Matt will surpass him statistically

I think Rivers is a beast of a player and probably has the most heart out of all the QB's but he's only taken the Chargers to the AFC Championship once and that was 10 years ago.  I can't see how he's a lock.

Ryan will most likely retire statistically in the top 10 in some categories too

I can't see how he's a lock either but I've heard quite a few guys on TV considering him a lock

Rivers is garbage (in my French accent), he is high end garbage. Ryan is a lock. Period. End of story.

Ryan has put together a stellar career. His "down year" was still better than many QBs. That ROY and MVP will be huge factors for the voters.

Its amazing that he'll surpass 40k yards this year...at only 32.

Hes top twenty now in yards. He should be either slightly ahead or right behind Dan Fouts at 15 in all time yards.

and he'll be number 15 in passing TDs, right behind Palmer.

thats a great career! And he should play 6-8 years more

I don't think it took Warner a long time. He had his required 5 year waiting period and then he made it in on his 2nd year on the ballot.

As @fuego said, there is the issue of people hating him and us. He will have to win one.

Nah, Fouts was hated. Considered a system guy. After he retired the numbers stood up, as Ryan's will.

Warren a Moon was another "quiet" but consistent guy. Many thought him done after a few years in Houston. But again, the stats held.

The HOF is about consistency as much as anything.

Not even close to Matt statistically yards or TDs. Warner had a short but magnificent run...that's why second ballot.

Let's hope. There are still guys who deserve to be in our RoH and aren't there.

Warner also played in 3 Super Bowls, winning 1 of them. Yes his peak only lasted 6 years (3 Rams, 3 Cardinals), but those years were amazing. Won 2 MVPs as well.

I was just disagreeing with the thought that Warner had to wait a long time to get in the HOF. I don't think making it in on the 2nd try is a long wait.

You proved my point (not being nasty or fighting), the brief greatness versus sustained greatness hurt Warner a bit. Same with Terrell Davis. That said I'm glad they got in.

Matt, assuming he doesn't get a SB ring, reminds me more of Fouts. Just consistently good over a long period. I bring up Fouts because he played from 1973-1987. The first half of his career Staubach, Bradshaw, Griese, Tarkenton and Stabler were his peers. All HOF. Several first ballot.

in his mid and late career Marino, Montana and Elway played.

fouts was that guy who was always mentioned after all these greats, couldn't win a SB, but he had an MVP and 14 years of sustained excellence. He was recognized for those accomplishments by the HOF first ballot.

i can see Matt being similar

I totally agree with this post, although I think Matts gets at least one ring, maybe two. By then, with his numbers and rings, he'll be a no brainer, even for the pathetic haters who vote

Thanks. I think Matt gets a ring, as well. But even without the rings, I believe he's wearing the yellow jacket

I wasn't trying to make a point. I was just saying that I don't think waiting 2 years on the ballot is considered a long time. I never said anything else in this thread. HeIl, you weren't even the one I initially quoted. I don't know why you think I'm disagreeing with anything you said when I wasn't even responding to you. I mean, WTF?
