Shelby isn't getting replaced idk where y'all are getting that.

I don't know but Shelby looked just 'serviceable' to me last year prior to injury. Upshaw REALLY surprised last year converting from LB to DT. We now have Jarrett, Poe, Hageman (who came on strong-flickering light bulb can hopefully stay lit), Upshaw, Crawford, and Shelby...let's not forget Clayborn.

To me Clayborn and Shelby are similar but Clayborn much more productive when healthy. Key word, healthy. Shelby can be a cap casualty depending on cap hit and numbers. I'm not a capologist so couldn't tell you.

Yeah,, Hoping by the end of the year that Tak will be a force,, I'm kind of thinking now that the two DEs I wanted most may have been better choices...  I was hoping for Taco or TJ Watt.  Hope I'm terribly wrong.

Watt couldn't do a **** thing on Matthews

Why would we need cap right now?

Legitimate question...but to have it roll over for next season for Matthews and Ryan extension. Then immediately after those 2, we have Jarrett and Vic and Coleman. Roll over as much cap as possible, especially if you have redundancy in your depth positions. Not saying that he will get cut or should. Just that he would be my first 'cap' casualty on the Dline. We are pretty deep on the Dline if you ask me. I think he, Crawford and Clayborn provide similar elements to the positions they play DT/DE.

We only save 500,000 and have over 3mil in dead money if we cut him. You sure about that?

I think he's a candidate to be cut because what has he done for us. I haven't seem him even in a game yet along getting his name called...However, I don't know what number he is and haven't even tried to figure out who he is.... /Purp (from GDawgs 53 but not GDawg) LoL!

In all seriousness, Dude looked very disruptive on the plays I saw. I reviewed Tak's plays over and over and 95 jumped out to me as the catalyst for some of the mayhem Tak was able to cause. He's a strong dude and has a very good skill set to play inside.

I never said he's a candidate to be cut. Also, after I found out what number he is, that he looked good (at least on the 1 play I can remember).

Shelby was coming on in the Seattle game before getting hurt. He was all over the place in that game.

So Shelby is the odd-man out now or no? He seems to be getting more replaceable as Oliver Vernon was the real gem in that Dolphins line the year before we signed him. If Freeney can be upgraded so can he, imo..

Don't see Shelby going any where this year

Not at all. I said in a previous thread today that I'm not a capologist but I just think that we have redundancy at the position which also alludes to depth. I also said IF there was a cut because of how deep we are, I COULD see Shelby. Not that he will be or that we should.

But thanks for the info. It is duly noted and wouldn't make sense to cut him then.

Yeah clay and Reed going no where. They are really good depth, and clay starts until Takk is ready. Shelby didn't do anything for me as far as pressure and sacks. Upshaw came on towards the end of the year and was a force.

Yeah, Shelby was just starting to find his rhythm in this defense before going down.

Our defensive line, starters and depth, is really something to be excited about. I can't wait until regular season when we can see it all flush out.

We ha e such versatility on the DL. We've got bangers if you are a big OL with strong running game or we have pass rushers if you are a finesse passing game and anything in between.

I am so jacked about this defense. I have never had the joy of being this excited about the Falcons defense. The closest I ever came was 2006 because we had added John Abraham to team with Patrick Kerney but that only lasted 1 game.

Me to brother 567!  I've wanted a stud defense and we always have come up short....this one is totally legit, loaded with playmakers and is going to take some teams by surprise.

But then to add it to a prolific offense with Matt Ryan in his prime is a dream come true.

Dream season 2017!

When we signed Crawford I said it was a stealth signing that went largely under the radar.

He knifes into the backfield and disrupts plays. These are exactly the type of DTs DQ loves. It flushes the QB out into the reach of the edge rushers and messes up timing on running plays.

Like I said, Crawford knifes into the backfield and disrupts plays. This is what I like about Crawford's game.  Stealth signing, fans hardly opined on tha pick up.

But Takk......man, Takk is looking way better than I would have thought he would at this point. He's blowing by OTs with a phenomenal first step burst and he has an awesome awareness of what is happening around him. He is REALLY impressing me.
