Is De'Freeman worth 5 @ Fitty with 12 For-sho

Recommended Posts

5/50/12 would be a very odd contract.  Schizophrenic even...reads like, "we want you around for a while but reserve the right to cut you next year."   If I was TD, I'd do 5/32.5/20 with a combo of LTBE and NLTBE accelerators and incentives worth up to 1M more.  The cap space is the most important so we give him less but essentially make a full 3-year commitment (highest guaranteed money for a RB).

If that's true, I really don't see that happening with TD.

At least not the 5 yr 50mil AND the 12 guaranteed. Could be wrong though, so we'll see.

12 million guaranteed is actually really low (around 20% of offer that's non-guaranteed). Even a potential $50 million probably wouldn't get him to take that little, because that means they're only on the hook for 2.4 million a year, just a little more than he's making now. If he gets hurt or they decide to dump him, that $50 million potential means nothing.

I'd love and see it in the $20 million guaranteed on $40-45 for 5 years, think that's fair for both sides. Structured in a way that helps the team, and Free gets $4-5 a year no matter what happens.

TD usually sees it that way too. Give them their money when they earn it, but figure out the smart way to do it. It may have saved his job during the Smitty years...

I'd give him more guaranteed as "payback" for the last two years when he was underpaid. But we can't do 5 for 50 and maintain our cap integrity. 5 for 40 and 18-20 might work.

Want Free to be paid. Understand he's worth big bucks.

I think TD is looking at it like, I can give you a pile of cash in your face right now, and give you a little less yearly, or I can give you a ton of cash yearly and not so much upfront. Don't think TD will sign off on both upfront and yearly big money, unless the go ahead comes directly from Blank.

But he wouldn't see all that $50M. That's the point that everyone seems to be missing. It's all about the guaranteed money. The rest doesn't matter. It could be $75M for all I care because I understand that it's a completely meaningless number.

They don't understand NFL contracts. Like you said guaranteed money is all that matters

I barely understand WTF the OP is trying to convey. If you are unable to type proper English, or even worse you refuse to do so, then go away.

Hey Trump, is that you?! Is there a difference between type proper English and speak proper English? And, can you qualify proper? Just asking Amigo...

He's worth it if for no other reason than half of his value is leadership & work ethic -- both of which are being hamstrung every day he goes without a contract.

He runs like an elite back but once this contract situation is off his mind he can concentrate on being the elite leader he is, too.
