Francis York Morgan
Made a quick highlight video for this freak since there's virtually nothing on him online. I'm sure I missed a ton of good plays, but I was scrounging and plenty of games from this year weren't even online. That said, this dude is the most slept on safety in the whole **** draft and he'd arguably be a top 3 safety last year. He might even be a top 3 safety this year, despite the lack of hype. From strictly a measurables standpoint, he was #2 (though Hooker wasn't included in that due to not participating). He's fantastic. Just trust me on this. Checks every physical measurable - 6'1 and 220 lbs, with a 4.41 40 (2nd among safeties), an 11 foot broad jump (also 2nd) and put up 20 bench reps (tops of the safeties). Reads the QB's eyes consistently. Loves to hit. Used almost the exact same way Jalen Ramsey was. This guy is going to be fantastic if he's put in the right spot to succeed, and he's only going to be 21 when the season starts. Just check out one of his interviews. He SCREAMS Quinn. Uses the same buzzwords and everything. http://www.draftseason.com/2017/02/18/josh-jones-interview-north-carolina-st-safety/ A few sample quotes: Quote How hard was it to give up your final year at NC State to enter the NFL Draft? It was very hard.. leaving my brothers at NC state. The bond myself and some of the guys built, we’re really like blood brothers. If you had the choice, which NFL quarterback would you want your first INT to come against? Tom Brady Sum up your style of play using 1 word.Relentless Make it happen, Quinnitroff. Lornoth
There's like, 6 FS's in this draft that I really like, that could all come in and start on this team. I feel like a kid in a candy store. This guy's big enough to be a corner in our scheme, and fast enough to be the FS? That's crazy. So why is he only a 3'rd rounder right now? Any reason? Combination of three things: 1) this draft is ridiculously stacked at safety, maybe the most ever, and I don't say that lightly 2) safeties are undervalued, especially free safeties (like KOG said before I posted apparently lol) 3) no one gives a crap about NCSU, and the dude has a boring name That last one probably sounds goofy, but it's true. People overlook players with boring names all the time. If the guy had a name like Northfist Godslayer, he'd be a first round lock. But really, he can be special. He's a blast to watch, that entire Wake Forest game he was just all over the field. Tons of great plays in the games I watched that I didn't put in the highlight video because they go unnoticed - like one where the corner bit on play action and his man caught it with nothing but green in front of him, so Jones went across the field, saving a TD by tackling the WR at the 2 yard line after a 70 yard gain. That kind of play doesn't look great on a highlight reel, but I guarantee NFL coaches are looking at it thinking "wow, this guy is special." Other plays just signified he could be an eraser - where someone was in man and got rubbed on the route so he came up and made a tackle, or where he'd stop a run play for 7 yards on 3rd and 9. Stuff that isn't glamorous enough for a highlight reel. FS isn't a glamorous position but it's probably my 2nd favorite to DE, right up with MLB. raysnill1
all I care about is instincts and speed. Rico was cool and all and he didn't mess up but dude was late to the party quite a bit. it seems like if he was just a tad faster he'd be a very good FS because he has the smarts for the role but you can't teach speed. if this guy can play like Rico but with speed, Quinn & Manuel would make him a star. Btw, if you're talking about his ranking on CBS, before the combine, he was actually a 5th-6th rounder and they only recently elevated him. I feel like more people are going to start watching him and he'll inevitably rise. I have a first round grade on him.

Kind of like when we had Worrilow starting. And we all saw how much of difference it made upgrading that position with more speed.

It's hard to imagine that we don't grab a FS-at the least to groom behind Rico. But tbh you're right the ceiling of many of these guys are through the roof and would upgrade the position by mid-season at the latest. I know many love Rico but he's about hit his max. He's limited athletically and in range.

Sometimes guys are placeholders and reserves and you just get by. Add speed and athleticism and range to the FS position and we are able to do so many more things defensively

People got pretty upset when I made that comparison. But yeah. Rico had a nice postseason and he's easy to root for, but I see no problem with giving him some competition. If safety is so deep I hope we take one in the 3rd round or later. I understand the argument that free safety is a really important position in DQ's system and maybe that position has a particularly large amount of ground to cover...but the guy we've got now certainly isn't bad and we really need depth on the D-line...and the good defensive linemen usually go earlier than later. Hashbrown3
Great job on the video! Amazing physical skills. He's listed as a SS in this draft but he does look like he has some good center field ball skills and did play some FS too. It'd be crazy to see he and Keanu on the field together. Atlantafan21
If we are goon strictly athleticism, Melifonwu is ur guy. I wouldn't mind getting either him or Jones, not sure if we'd pull the trigger considering Rico is on the team.
