The worst thing you can do to a classic piece of material like Blade Runner is get all heavy on the exposition and try to explain everything. See the midi-chlorians that George Lucas came up with to explain "The Force" in the Star Wars prequels. But this is Denis Villeneuve directing. He is a master storyteller, and doesn't insult the audience by spoon-feeding them everything. This type of science fiction is right in his wheel-house.
