Arny was what Tiger was when they both hit the scene. Both were hugely popular, young, powerful, and exactly what the stagnant sport needed to get new viewers and followers. Arnold Palmer was such a good ambassador for golf, and he seemed to be a really cool guy as well. 

Up until recently, my best friend and I were a part of a foursome that played golf regularly with 2 guys who are Arnold Palmers age, both of the seniors really idolized Arny, and would often fill us in on the history of his legacy and all the things that were so great about him, that happened before our time. A few years ago I watched the documentary of the 1960 U.S Open at Cherry Hill, and got what the old timers are always talking about.
