He just signed a 2 year deal for 44 mil. It'll be presented as a 5 year deal, but the deal voids after 2 years. The illusionary 3 years allow them to spread the cap hit out.

I think the Falcon Defensive Staff has a right to demand part of Brees HUGE obnoxious contract.

THEY created his success more than ANYTHING.

Thanks Brees for making sure They're carrying your cap hit years after you are gone

Nope, contract voids in two years- all the prorated money will come due then. If Brees and the Saints are a playoff team, they'll renegotiate the deal, otherwise, they'll let him  go, take a huge cap hit for one year, and start over.

Incredibly excited for this. If they're as bad as I think they'll be this year, they won't have any inclinations in taking Watson.

Unless Brees is hurt, they'll win too many games to get to Watson.

Wait, so they're lowering their cap hit this year and next year but then trashing it in 2018 again or forced to extend him again? Wow. Loomis just keeps pushing the pain forward.

I worry he'll be outta here after 2017.

Ryan is under contract til 2018.

This is a good deal for the Saints and Brees. Brees gets no Franchise tag, no trade clauses, chance to make a clean break after 2017. Saints get cap room and control of the situation- they can re-sign him to a new deal before this one voids if they want, or just take a cap hit and let him leave.

Glad they waited so they couldn't use the extra cap space in FA.

Latest numbers being thrown around are a 30 mil signing bonus, which would mean 18 mil in dead money after the contract voids.

Breesus is good but he is in decline.  The fact is he is hurting his teams ability to fill out the roster with quality players.  Especially on defense.  They got their one Lombardi at the expense of Breesus.

Really hasn't been the Brees contract so much as missing on so many draft picks and overpaying FA.

IDK man, he has had a hefty contract throughout the last half decade.  Yes, that played in to it as well.

It's essentially like the Julio trade, what hurt was not so much giving up the top of two drafts, because Julio is  worth that, but missing on the rest of the picks in those drafts.

Brees is still one of the best but even he hasn't been able to save that porous roster in recent years. I think once they finally get their roster cleaned up, Brees will be ready to retire.

They can't get the roster right till brees retires....because of all the bad drafts and free agent moves
