It’s the start of a new NFL season, and the Falcons have the chance to get revenge on the team that beat them twice last year.

We are less than a week away from the Falcons’ home opener and the first game of the 2016 season for Atlanta. These last eight-plus months didn’t go by slowly at all.

The Falcons have a brutal early schedule, so this game represents one of their easier contests, and it’s not one you should take for granted by any stretch of the imagination. The Buccaneers beat the Falcons twice a year ago, embarrassing Dan Quinn’s defense both times, and figure to be an improved team in 2016 with Jameis Winston entering his second year and an intriguing defense. Atlanta will have to be much sharper on D and avoid the kinds of costly red zone mistakes they ran into too often a year ago to keep up, but we’ll certainly hope they can start the season 1-0.

Here’s what you need to know to check out the first game of the season. Stay tuned for coverage throughout the week.

Falcons Vs. Buccaneers Game Info

What: Atlanta Falcons vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Week 1 of the NFL season

When: Sunday, September 11 at 1 p.m. EST

Where: Georgia Dome, Atlanta, Georgia

Channel: FOX

Radio: 92.9 The Game

Story lines to watch: Can the Falcons overcome a strong young Buccaneers team they lost to twice in 2015? Is Matt Ryan over his 2015 struggles? Will the Falcons pass rush show up? Will the Bucs be able to pick on Kemal Ishmael, who will start for injured rookie Kemal Ishmael?

I can't wait for this season to start!  I am so freakin' pumped!  I'm especially looking forward for Mr. Winston to meet Mr. Freeney and (hopefully) Mr. Beasley :)

Last year, we lost to the Bucs once in OT and lost in large part due to horrific tackling and effort.  The first loss started the downward spiral, the second loss just capped it off.  I think this team improved a lot over this offseason.  My only concerns, which are huge, are the pass rush and MR2.  If we can put Crab Legs on his butt and if Matt Ryan can take care of the ball, it'll be a W.

2 imp. keys to game

1) (+) in turnover battle

2) RUN, RUN, RUN = feed the beasts =  Freeman / Coleman

I agree, but none of that happens if we continue to make mistakes and play sloppy. If we come out like a well oiled machine...look out.

M. Smith and Koetter know Ryan better than anyone and will fully exploit that. Combine that with Ryan and KS STILL not being on the same page and our bad play against Mobile QB's and we are toast in this game. We could easily lose by 20-30 points. It will not even be close

Is this a serious post?  Are you referencing the same Mike Smith that couldn't scheme himself out of a pop warner game?  lol, we will not lose by 20-30 points Chicken Little...

Shanny has Matt to where Matt no longer knows Matt...maybe that will be to our advantage with Smith/Koetter.

question = how do we score more points than Bucs ?

They're expecting a ground-and-pound, eat-up-the-clock game plan from us, so instead we run a two-minute offense, we attack with deep throws, reverses, even QB runs, everything they didn't expect or plan for.

We try to score TD's every drive rather than try to run clock and have 15-play drives that so often fizzle out around the 8-yard line with a FG. Keep them off-balance on offense, and shut Winston down on D. Kill the head and the body dies. Get them in 3rd and long, stop'em and get off the field.

all sounds groovy! but, who's going to put pressure or sack Winston? defensively we cant go soft.....Mike Smith & Dirk knows our senior personnel skill sets in n out. So I sincerely hope...our Coaching staff comes up with unique match ups.

With respect, I doubt Smith and Koetter know as much about this team than we think.....we are an entirely different team than when they were here....new personnel and schemes offensively and defensively........

I agree we can't go soft. Hopefully, Quinn/R Smith has some blitzes et al  up their sleeves to disrupt Winston's rhythm.
