BCurt57 323
There's a difference between justifying something and saying why you like it. He's a worker, I think. What I like is how many of our guys are men. Vic, Babs, Neal, Julio, Msck, Devonta--on and on. Everything I've read about Sanu is that he's a great teammate and never stops working. He got paid. Good.

Can block hard upfield, can do trick plays, has size to beat out defenders, and can even run the ball. He is a GREAT #2 to the dynamic playmaker in Julio.

Shanahan says White fits in just fine despite the lack of touches. "It doesn't always show up on the stat sheet, but I thought Roddy had his best game last week," Shanahan said, referring to the 39-28 victory over the Dallas Cowboys. "He only got one opportunity that got called back on a penalty, but I thought he did a **** of a job in the run game. I thought it was his best game blocking out of all three of them. And we he did have his routes, he got open. Edited May 20, 2016 by slickgadawg
FalconFanSince1969 15,510
Roddys cap hit was the exact same as sanus. Difference is roddy is going on 35. He is still sitting there in free agency. He is done. It happens to everybody. Get over it. I'd rather have somebody that is young and hungry.
Madness21 88
I mean I get it he's a hard worker, and he may very well shock everyone and be very good. But like I said before the things that people are saying just dont convince me. We have Hester and Julio for screens and trick plays. Had Roddy for blocking. If im going to really pay a guy to be my #2 he needs to be a TJ houshmandzadeh or Golden Tate type. Not just a blocker and a trick play specialist. BCurt57 323
Roddy was a great blocker and a self-taught great receiver. He really regressed though. He just got old for this. His drops came back because even when he juked a guy he just couldn't get separation so he was ALWAYS crowded. We don't want Julio doing end runs and when Hester comes in everyone on the field is waiting for a dump off. Hester came in as a DB. He just isn't a very good WR. Ssnu has ALL of this. I'm glad we have him.

No doubt in my mind when the time is right in the game...............long shot to Sanu. Defense's will worry about "2" big wr's.

He worked on it last year and had a much better 2015, but you cherry picked his worse year instead of his most recent year. From an article on Cincy Jungle .... Cincinnati's wide receivers were fantastic in 2015. A.J. Green and Marvin Jones led the Bengals receivers with just two drops apiece. Jones caught 65 of his 103 targets, posting a 1.9 percent drop rate. Green hauled in 86 of 132 passes, with just a 1.5 percent drop rate. Brandon Tate caught two of three passes, the third being a missed throw from Dalton. But the receiver with the best hands in 2015 was Mohamed Sanu, who reeled in 33 of 49 passes without dropping a single ball. Sanu was somewhat known for his drops in 2014, so this was a big improvement for the fourth year player who's about to hit free agency. Catching the ball is a skill, and any skill can be improved with proper practice and repetition. Sanu seems like a guy that is willing to work on his craft, we've seen a lot of off season videos of him putting in work, and the arrow is pointing up for him.

Not only do I think Shanahan will use him, he'll be a major part of the passing offense. They need production out of that No. 2 WR spot and they are confident Sanu is going to provide that. They certainly paid him a salary consistent with giving him a goodly share of the pass receiving load, just behind Julio.
insight 1,917
We have completely dismantled one of our biggest strengths and people are clapping for joy. All I heard last season was how Hardy was going to come in as a rookie and produce more than Harry Douglas.(FALSE) The other half of the board proclaimed Hankerson would blossom into a true #2 once he was reunited with Kyle (FALSE) When the Falcons were one of the best teams in the league, we had Julio, Gonzalez, Roddy, and Harry D, if anyone went down the other guys could pick up the slack. Fast forward to 2016 and we are totally dependant on Julio Jones, if he goes down the entire offense will not work because we have a bunch a C+ players around him. I have no problem with the team paying another reciever big money but it should be a true playmaker who can slide into the #1 spot if necessary. Sanu is not that guy. We can get that from Hester......I don't get it. I'd rather have Roddy White or someone. That's not enough contribution for a #2 imo. 5 catches a game equates to 80 catches. That's equal to what Eric Decker did last year with over 1000 yards receiving. I'd say that's much better than Devin Hester or almost any #2 wr. Just for reference Eric Decker had the 2nd most catches of all the #2 WRs in the league. He was only topped by Golden Tate at 90. Tate's situation was rare because he actually had more catches last year than Calvin Johnson who had 88. I think you may have misjudged how many catches that really is or how many catches a #2 wr should have. Edited May 20, 2016 by ATLFalcons11

Or he's trying to explain it to someone who just doesn't get it. Man signed for 3 years and 14 mil, he's the 20th highest paid WR right now, in a couple of years, he'll be the 40th highest paid. The only year that Sanu got targets in Cinn's O, he produced, with 98 targets, he had 59 catches, 790 yards and 5 TDs. Know how many targets Hankerson was on track for over 6 games, before he got hurt? 100. Think it's reasonable to assume he can fill the Hankerson role here. Certainly worth the risk. Barring acquiring a DOMINANT guard, you're not likely to see a big impact. There was one dominant guard in this FA class and he got like $12m a year. Lol. Him not even being a free agent is a pretty important one. Not to mention, there's not many guards in the league that would be less of a fit in our current scheme. The guys a great guard overall, but why on earth would he even want to go to a team that will ask him to move laterally all game?

Those kind of guys are not easy to find. Sanu will be asked to make catches in the middle of the field and block down field for our RB's. I have no problem with his contract. If you want to complain about contracts, complain about Hester and Reed.
