takeitdown
It's weird, because all but 1 or 2 of each group were considered to have very good 40 times, and be very athletic for their position. 40 is more of a disqualifier than a qualifier. A corner who runs a 4.3 isn't necessarily better than one who runs a 4.4. But, a corner who runs a 4.7 will have a very hard time generally. Intellectually Honest
Silly article. Sure speed is not everything. But it can be IF the player uses it to win against his matchup. Some guys win with brute strength and so on. Guys with very fast times can recover from mistakes much easier. It is the difference between a corner for example, who misses a tackle or overruns it and chases down a WR vs doing the same thing but being unable to recover. NeonDeion
Wow. The author just proved the exact opposite of his point in that article. Most of the All-Pros he listed have insane 40 times for their position along with only one or two outliers. Of course they aren't all going to have the "exact" same 40 times. But when you look at all the mean times he calculated, they are blazing fast. Combine numbers are great disqualifiers. The guy who runs a 4.4 can easily be better than the guy who runs a 4.3, but the guy who runs a 4.8 is going to be 3 steps behind. You can't go on numbers alone, but it should be 60% tape, 40% numbers with players needing to meet a certain "threshold", not needing to be the fastest at their position.
