Oldskooler
Because from Free Agency, our weak, ineffective, hapless defense has not improved, and may be worse. No Paul Solia for run-stuffing. Shelby's unparalleled pine-riding capability. Weatherspoon's unparalleled hot-tub mastery. Upshaw's unparalleled 3-4 effectiveness in our 4-3 defense. Because the last "impact LB" that we "plucked" from the Ravens was SUCH a success. No proof of a beefier, stronger Beasley. The offense will be much better due to Matt Ryan's grasp of the WCO in his second year. But will it be enough improvement to offset the mighty suckage of our sub-Browns level of defense? I don't think so. I believe we are in for a top-10 draft pick in 2017.

A nothing loser from a team of losers. He'll fit right in here.

Seriously, I live in South Florida and everyday I hear from Dolphin fans about how they hate losing Shelby. Few talk about losing Vernon. I guess they understand the economics. But, they all lament losing Shelby.
Oldskooler
19 sacks. The whole TEAM'S total. 19 sacks. Do any of you homers think Shelby is going to be a 10-sack guy? 8? 4? Or is Stick-Man Beasley going to suddenly be able to push around 300+ pound o-linemen with his 238 pound free safety frame?

Shelby was on a really good Dline, and when given a chance to start, had 3.5 sacks in 8 starts

Still indicates he can get to the passer. Didn't answer the question- you paying Irvin 9.5 mil to get him? It probably would have been 10+ to get him, Oakland had a bunch of money they have to spend, they could have added another 5 mil to his contract and not blinked an eye.
