Yeah, I noticed that after the post:D  Care to way in I would be very interested to hear your opinion.

I think they are trying to do exactly what the Patriots, Packers, Steelers have done over the years.  Build through the draft and use all funds to re-sign their own players.  I think going out and getting Alex Mack is a very strong sign they want to build a winner.  Signings like this one have to be made to fill out a roster.  It will take some time to get the roster where they want it but I like where it's headed so far.

No disrespect to Capologist...  He and the  Professor have some the best salary cap analytic skills on the board...   My knowledge is much more casual...

I got a good laugh out of it :)

Who ?

Who do you think they could bring in right now to compete for a starting job?

I don't think all of these guys would come in and start necessarily, but I think they'd all be more useful to the team than guys like Compton ... or Parms/Robinson/Van Dyke:

Vernon Davis, Jared Cook, Louis Vasquez, Evan Mathis, Stefen Wisniewski, Chris Chester, Terrance Knighton, Jason Jones, Randy Starks, Chris Long, Aldon Smith, Jeremy Mincey, Erin Henderson, Sean Spence, Bruce Carter, Zach Brown, Danny Lansanah, Brandon Boykin, Greg Toler, Reggie Nelson, Rashad Johnson, Husain Abdullah, Tony Jefferson

I just don't see the benefit of adding guys to the roster right now who are basically 90 man roster fodder for training camp, when we should be looking to add legitimate competition for the starting 53.

On a serious note, how much effect does Kyle Shanahan have on this team?  Alex Mack, Compton, Sanu...... What's next RG3?  It's almost like Shanahan is the HC

If you include Matt Schaub and Aldrick Robinson, 4 out of the 5 offensive free agents we have signed played for Shanahan previously.

Yet Quinn continues to tell us that Kyle has no input into personnel decisions.

Riiiiight.

Who do you think made the call to cut Joe Hawley in favor of Person? The sad thing is when Kyle's dad gets a new gig he will be the 1st to jump ship leaving the Falcons to sort through the mess.

Shanny is the anchor on Quinn's leg just like Nolan was Smitty's anchor.

Quote

Four-year starter who was red-shirted as a freshman. An athletic tackle who plays with natural knee bend, base, and flexibility. Has the natural talent to make a team. Played left tackle for the Coyotes. Graded out as the third most athletic tackle out of 48 at the Combine. That being said, he needs technique work in his overall game. He plays with good leverage and power at the FCS level, but will need to adjust to the edge speed of the NFL. Powerful on down blocks. Good effort on second level blocks. Has the ability to play flat-footed with good flexibility. Good range and foot quickness, but needs work on his overall footwork as a pass protector. Will need to get more overall body strength. A developmental tackle or guard who has been durable over his career.

Athletic and has starting experience. They should let him compete at RG.

Really not sure why we're bringing in guys like this when there are players available who could legitimately compete for a starting spot

I can say, I do respect that Quinn is trying to let his coaches coach and bring in the guys they feel they need but I really feel like he pulled a Mark Richt/Brian Schottenheimer with this clown.

I don't know who folks think is left to sign. This is the second wave of free agency - all that is left are cheap depth signings.

Aldon Smith, Hardy, Evan Mathis, Boldin. Plenty of good players but there, problem is, all of em are trouble with monster risks or old as dirt.

Of course the OC is going to have input on who he wants or doesn't want. There's a difference between having input and making the decision on who is brought in and who isn't.

Yeah, I know...

I just hate seeing so many guys brought in who played for Kyle elsewhere. Just gives me a bad feeling.

Agreed.  That's one of the reasons I find it funny when Quinn say he had zero conversation with Shanahan prior to Roddy's release.  Bush it.  Loyalty to a fault.

Don't forget Roddy White being released.   I think signing Mack was more Ryan than Shanahan.   Your observation about Shanahan is more spot on than you think...when it comes to our offense, Kyle IS the defacto HC.   DQ allows Kyle WAY too much authority to run our offense.
