Panthers sign Soliai

Recommended Posts

That sucks, we should have kept him, WHY does this team never keep the big giant DT's? We did the same stupid stuff when Grady Jackson was here and was a monster for us. I HATE HATE HATE how we are always about finesse on the OL and DL and have been for the last decade. WHY can't we have at least two giant monster 330 LB + monsters on DL?

We cut him because he wasn't a fit in Quinn's scheme and only played 1/3 of the snaps. Also he was the 3rd highest payed player after Matt & Julio so all the signs were there.

Soliai is getting old and injured. He brings nothing to the pass rush but sure lets act like hes a world beater now that the mighty panthers signed him. His contract was always designed to be a two year contract if you look at the structure.

You act like the team improved by releasing him and they did NOT! You can rationalize the move all you want but if Carolina can use him on a far superior defense yet we can't begs to question who is evaluating these players.  I bet you were saying the same thing about cutting Joe Hawley!

Soliai never lived up to his contract with us. Why should we be upset that our division rival is making the same mistake we did two years ago?

1. They got him for 3 million guaranteed.

2. He comes in to add additional depth to a formidable defensive line.

3. Did Brooks Reed live up to his contract? What about Tyson Jackson?

You build a strong team through competition not through handing the new guy the job. We cut Joe Hawley last year and GAVE Person his job only to find out he couldn't even snap the ball. We now were forced to pay 9.5 million for a 31 year old Center.

We cut Harry Douglas and GIVE Hankerson the starting job only to find out he can't CATCH or stay on the Field. We now are forced to pay 7 million for a 4th or 5th option receiver from the Bengels.

Carolina has won the division 3 years in a row and has a top 5 defense. Think long and hard about who has been making the wrong personnel moves!

I liked Soliai but I understand why he was approached about a restructure and then subsequently released. He was making way too much for only playing a third of the snaps. I wish they could have worked something out but it's not anything to cry over. There is still a few run stuffing NTs out their that’s not going cost no where near as much as Soliai.

If he plays with Star on first down,  that is close to 700lb of run stopping muscle in the middle of their line.   I think he will be a great rotation guy for them.

I believe the Falcons brought him in and expected the big boy to be a pass rusher,  something that he's really not.     He's a run stuffer.  He needs to be utilized strictly as a run stuffer.

Exactly, when we originally brought him in we couldn't stop anybody in 3rd in short situations. The Falcons were routinely getting blown off the ball, I think Solia was a big reason why the run defense improved.

I don't like the lack of creativity that Quinn has shown us thus far using what players do best. No doubt the defense improved but I think we are closer to the saints than to Carolina in terms of defensive talent and stoutness.

He will definitely help them. We seem to still be missing something in our thoughts process. I was so hoping for more with Vital gone and new people in the Front office. Oh well I hope I'm wrong and I hope for the best. The F O can't afford for this thing to crash this year.

You guys kill me. Soliai had 17 tackles last year. Where is this mighty run stopping guy you are talking about?

In addition we run an outside zone. Id explain it to you Soliai lovers but its evident common sense isn't your strong point.

ROFL!! Dont let facts get in your way.

3rd down defense:

42.9% 2015
46.8% 2014 Dead last
45.9% 2013 Dead last

So with Soliai playing more snaps, with Mike smith we had the LAST 3rd down defense in the league. Quinn gets here, Soliais snaps go down and our 3rd down average gets better. Hey you brought up not stopping anyone on 3rd down...

1st of all I said he was brought in to address the issue is that a fact or not? Secondly are you saying that  Solia was on the bench in obvious run situations and played exclusively on passing downs? Are you saying the facts indicate we were better stopping the run without him because that is what you are implying?

What did HD do with Tennessee?  Oh yeah, nothing....

He did improve the team though. He cleared up so much cap space for us.

Now if we could only use that cap space...
