Was just about to post this. His tape still isn't great, but as of now ,if its between taking Lee in the 1st or Jones in the 2nd or 3rd, i'm taking Jones because i don't see a huge disparity between the two.

This is where I am as well.  I would rather take DE-Lawson/Dodds in 1st and Deion Jones in 2nd/3rd.  Matt on Walter football had us selecting  Devon Jones in 4th Rd but I cannot see him falling that far.

Saw Jones run the 40 at the combine 0 chance he's a 4.3 guy.

Fuller looked all of 4.3 no chance in **** Jones could run with Fuller.

Pro day 40times are always inflated.  Take  all of them with grain of salt.

Agreed.  And the pro scouts/personnel evaluators know there is a big red flag when college prospects elect not to run at the combine too!!

Deion Jones is fast - believe he ran like a 4.55/40 at combine on official time - that is probably what he really is.

Dawg I know LBer is gaping right now and for all $$$$$ there leaving it for the draft to fill.I'm really feeling a double down is where we are going LBer right now.

I'm on the Dodd train aswell as Whitehair in the 2nd round.I understand if they go this way they are still leaving a huge hole at the position mentioned. But pass rush & protect the QB it's still a sound investment to me.

we need linebackers - but - I hate REACHING for players for need.   Darron Lee is the only linebacker I would consider in 1st round and I think he is a small reach at #17.    Ragland is close to worthy of the pick but he is a poor scheme fit to me.   Leonard Floyd is not a pure linebacker in a 4-3, he is more of a 3-4 OLB/designated passrusher.

There are linebackers to be had in 2nd, 3rd and 4th rounds that can help us.   The talent on the board at #17 is likely a passrusher and we should take the best talent.

Is he a football player though

This right here!

Reminds me of this NFL roundtable I saw many years ago with Deacon Jones, Ray Lewis, Tim Brown, Michael Strahan, and they got to talking about different eras and how modern players were so freakishly athletic.  Tim Brown got to talking about Rickey Dudley, the Raiders tight end at the time who was like 250 and ran in the 4.4's....

Deacon looked him right in the eye and shot back, "but can he play?"  Shut the whole conversation down.

To be fair, Jones is def a sub 4.5 guy and had terrible form running his 40 at the combine and was still sub 4.6. Watch him, his acceleration is out of this world.

But I'm biased. After Myles Jack (and non-injured Jaylon Smith) he's my favorite LB this class. You can say his tape is mediocre all you want but I just see lack of experience. His instincts are way better than Lee and his coverage is better too. He's going to be a special player.

Word out of the combine was that a flu virus was floating around and a lot of players were affected by it, some more than others, resulting in 40 times that were affected on differing levels.

On the flip side, pro day 40s are always inflated.

Between the two, I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt, and call him a 4.45 guy.

I don't think anybody is trying to take any credit away from Deion Jones.  More power to him.  I like him and would be very happy to see him here.  He also showed quite well at the Sr Bowl.

Even if he runs somewhere in the 4.5's to 4.45's...those are real nice wheels for a 6.1, 225 pounder!

I never ever fully trust the pro days.

I just changed Jones' 40 time in my spreadsheet to 4.5. Nice # between his combine (where Falcan thinks he looked awkward/lacking technique) and his pro day (where another player that also ran at the combine was also 1/10th of a second faster)

That's definitely an inflated time but he's faster than his combine time showed. He was running sideways with his eyes closed. If we don't go Darron Lee in the first round, I'd hope Deion Jones drops to the 3rd because I feel there will be better guys there at pick 50. I like him though.

Falcon Moore thought he looked awkward?
