JayOzOne
LInebacker is a logical pick. With that said, everybody else knows it as well. We might get scooped at #16 for the best LB on the board. If we do and have a higher rated DE/DT available, I'm cool with taking the BPA and grabbing a backer in the next round. I don't dig reaching for a pick at #17. 1989Fan
Really, we could take anything but qb, rb, cb, oc

Looking at the projection which is iffy at best looks like we are pretty lock in on those 3. What if Treadwell is still there? Do we take em and pick up a LB in round 2? Or grab one and pick up Miller in the 2nd? I think at this point we have to go LBer luckily the 1st is the only round where the value will be there for them. After the first few the drop off is steep. I think the pick will be Lee or Floyd as I think Ragland is a bad fit for our defense. I think we need to strengthen the middle of our defense unfortunately this is not a good draft for MLB. However I think we can get a player like Austin Johnson in the 2nd that will be a great long term nose teamed up with Mbu. Then in the third we can get Travis Feeney that I think will play SS for us and be incredible. Edited March 15, 2016 by Sobeit
DoYouSeeWhatHappensLarry
I watched Ragland some more last night....it went better this time. He was really good against Wisconsin.

I'm almost to the point where i am going to completely rule out Ragland. I don't think Lee will be the pick either, but i'm not going to rule him out to the point where I am at with Ragland. When it comes to Lee possibly being the pick at 17, I think that it could be based on the confidence the Falcons feel about developing their LBs. LB coach Jeff Ulbrich and DC Richard Smith have worked with and helped develop some good LBs in the past.

But yeah, LB overall is underwhelming in this class. There are some decent players but aside from Jack and healthy Smith, its a bit thin on the upside. maxatlanta
I like drafting to the strength of the draft, meaning DT since we might very well still see our top rated one still available at 17. That said, if you are kicking Clayborn and Shelby inside on passing downs there's not much point in taking a rd1 DT.

The Falcon Jedi Knight
The main weakness this team had on defense last year was our LB corps. Everybody knew you can throw down the middle against them - they cant cover anybody. They cant tackle, they cant pursue. And all we did was bring back Sean Weatherspoon - who will be on IR before the season begins. The LB position is what needed to be focused on most. Otherwise we are basically going to have the same defense as last year.

Then turn around and draft Su'a Cravens to play the will. That'd give us another year to see what Reed has to offer us. Who in this draft do you like? Lord Sarcomere
To answer your question, OP, yes I think we afford to pass on LB in the first this year. It is an extremely underwhelming class for LBs, to the point its almost depressing. The more I watch some of these guys, the less I want to address LB in the first. I loved Jaylon Smith, but with possible permanent nerve damage, I would not touch him in the first three rounds as it stands. I'm not particularly enamored with the DE class this year, either. I am starting to warm up to the idea of taking a WR in the first round. I doubt it happens though, with us signing Sanu. He is getting paid WR2 money. After the Top 10 in this draft there is a huge fall-off in talent. I dont know. All I do know is we could have done a lot better in FA than Weatherspoon. That was a bottom-barrel pickup. He didnt do crap for the Falcons when he was younger, he didnt do anything last year for Arizona, and there is no reason to believe he will be anything more than a special teams player this year. He is damaged goods, with very little value at this point.
