AtlantaFanatic
User Actions Follow trey wingoVerified account@wingoz Falcons are bringing in Chris Long for a visit today. Atlanta's produced the fewest sacks in the NFL over the last three years Thanks for twisting the knife a little bit Trey! I'm kinda Bleh on the idea. Honestly I haven't followed Long's career very closely so I don't know much about him. How old is he? Do you think he could help us? If we signed him do you think that takes us out of drafting a DE in the first?
g-dawg
Better be a 1yr prove it deal. I am not crazy about it , he seems to be in decline and oft-injured. Good player though.

jfalconsp
Yeah he'll be 31 this year and has been pretty injured the last two years missing 14 games. Was solid before that though, but not sure what he's got left at this point.
dfsutton
Yeah, I don't really understand this. We already got our starting LE. Would he just be a rotational piece to back up our edge rushers?

Captain Insano
Would he fill our Biermann role??..lol..I think he's already gone but I'd much rather have Long on the roster than Biermann

I'm fairly certain that Shelby will start over TJax at strongside end. I dont know what their use for TJax will be now.

blackredfellow
Dang alright. Not messing around here. I remember when Seattle did this a few years ago. I laughed at them stockpiling DEs, looked like they lost their mind, but obviously that worked out well. When Long is healthy he is a beast. jeffro2000
I don't think we will sign him. I doubt we offer him much after Shelby and Clayborn. He has been injured and not very effective but he will play hard and try to compete at least. If healthy, he may bring something to the table. RS91
If he can stay healthy I'm sure he still has a few good years left in the tank. I wouldn't sign him to more than a one year deal though.
insight
Yeah, let's pay Sanu 7mill a year to address self created offensive need and address pass rush by signing players on the defensive Line because they look like Thor. Don't we already have Brooks Reed to fill that role making a kings ransom? Edited March 10, 2016 by insight
blizzard_falcon
I could see giving him a one year deal. Injuries have really hampered him the past two seasons, so it's hard to tell if he has anything left in the take. Really similar situation to Jake Long last offseason, though Chris's injuries were less severe overall. ESPN's Trey Wingo reports free agent DE Chris Long will visit the Falcons on Thursday. Long has also visited with the Redskins and Cowboys. The Falcons have the fewest sacks in the NFL over the last three seasons, but Long has just 12.5 sacks total himself over that span. Long could be a good edge-setting end opposite Vic Beasley, but he is not going to solve the Falcons' pass-rushing woes.
NCFalcon52
We would have top 3 picks from 2008 draft. Interesting if healthy.
Matt_The Iceman_Ryan
These are the DEs on the roster at this point: Beasley / Shelby / Clayborn / Goodman Of course we need more players at the position...he is going to be a "camp" player on a 1-2 year deal with little guaranteed money.... I know folks want to draft a DE, but we went DE in the first round last year...I just don't see it again this year... The biggest NEEDs on the team, as we sit right now are OLB and SS...those will be our first two picks unless FA changes that...
AndySG
If he's even half the player that he was then he's worth having around. If he can stay healthy then he's a good veteran presence who has been great in the past.
Mr. Hoopah!
He's visited with the Cowboys and he's set to visit with the Redskins also. We're not the only teams kicking the tires.
CTann
1 year prove it deal. You know Quinn likes having an amount of rotational guys on the DL. Not saying we'll luck up again, bu remember the "injury concerns" and the 1 arm thing last offseason with Clayborn?

Lornoth
He's a guy like Clayborn was last year; good when healthy, but you can't rely on that right now. He's old too, though, which only hurts his stock more. I wouldn't necessarily be opposed to it, but you can't expect anything from him either. Quarterback
I like it! I think we should bring about 20-30 more DE's with the hope of finding at least one--JUST ONE--person who can reach AND sack a QB! Haven't seen this around here in many years. Hashbrown3
Long missed four games last season and 10 in 2014 because of knee and ankle injuries, but he did not miss a game in his first six seasons with the Los Angeles Rams. From 2010-13 he had 41.5 sacks. He's visiting or has visited the Redskins I believe. Here are his numbers.
