gazoo
Utah's Derrick Shelby was an undrafted DE signed by the Fins 4 seasons ago. He worked his way up playing sparingly behind Cameron Wake his first 3 seasons until last year when Wake got injured, allowing Shelby to start 9 games. Shelby did not disappoint last year when he got some starts. He had 3.5 sacks, 2 FFs, 4 passed defensed, was stout against the run and had an interception he returned for a TD. He's got great size at 280lbs to hold up against the run, but just started blossoming last year when he got his chance. The Fins fans loved this kid. All our fans do is look at his fantasy stats and start whining he's no good. I see this as a stealth signing where we got a young, veteran blossoming starting level DE for relative peanuts. Now that we've resigned Adrian Clayborn, I'm liking how the line is shaping up.
Hashbrown3
Looking forward to seeing this dude get after it in red and black. It really has very nice potential to be a steal in FA...

FalconBlood
I have never had an issue with budget deals. I am just thrilled this guy is a budget deal that isn't injury ridden, all hype and no production try to avoid being busts types of guys, or types of budget guys like we've done in the past. He also just turned 27.
Abeasley27
B/R just said that signing Shelby could be the steal of the day and possibly free agency because of all the crazy money the rest of the pass rushers received

Shelby and Jaye Howard were both under-the-radar moves that could pay dividends for us and the Chiefs.
g-dawg
I don't claim to know much about Shelby. However, NFL.com had Derrick Shelby in its "Top 99" free agents at #27 overall which is a very high ranking ahead of a lot of household names. xiv_T_E_C_O_
Great signing. It fits scheme, fills a need, great value, and has a ton of potential.
atlshocker
Phins fans are kind of upset behind letting him go. He will create a good rotation for us.
PriMeTiiMe
I don't watch the Dolphins but from what I have read he played outstanding last season after Wake went down with an injury. Also when you check out Dolphins message boards the general opinion is that they are disappointed they could not retain him. Hopefully between him and Clayborn they can hold down the fort this year opposite of Beasley. Would love to see us go all out at LB now if the funds are there and get Freeman, Brown and Whitehead. One can dream. Edited March 10, 2016 by PriMeTiiMe
clownorg
GAZ ya know I love ya brother I mean after more than a decade on the boards with ya I know you have a much more rosey outlook than I do and I so hope I am wrong. .....but I'm seeing this guy as Ray Edwards 2.0. Product of his system and surrounding talent. Thankfully we didn't pay him like we did Edwards so I see this as an educated risk! Boom or bust

Boom or bust Well Vernon was more productive when Shelby was in the starting lineup than Wake. So maybe he's the talent that helps others look better. Saying someone isn't a good player because they have other good players around them isn't a good argument though. Gotta watch the traits of the players will they are playing and not look at the stat sheet. Now I haven't watched his games for the Dolphins yet so I can't say how he plays but I'll get on that as soon as possible. I still don't get the Ray Edwards vibe from him though. I think he's a player on the verge of coming into his own and being a pretty decent starter. Hoping I'm right
Truth B Told (TRU)
He was able to learn from one of the best in Cameron Wake and more importantly he's a upgrade to T Jackson. I see him as a Charles Johnson type LE

Boom or bust Clown my friend im gonna have to disagree with you on this thought process of yours for 1 big reason. Ray Edwards was supposed to be a big time top tier DE signing for the Falcons. Pretty much our future replacement for abe. We already have that now in Beasley as he is supposed to be our star of the future and sack specialist. Shelby is more of a lets see if we can hit the jackpot type of signing for not a ton of money atleast in this years FA class. We would like for him to turn into something big time but it's not expected like it was with Edwards coming in. 6 to 7 sacks a year with great run defense is what you look for from our LDE spot you would love to get 10+ from both spots if possible sure but 6 or so from LDE isn't bad either if he can provide it with top tier run defense. That with some nice pressures and you can't ask for much more.
