Falconsfan11
Was looking at the updated FA list on Walter football and D-Led(I know not a good source) said Mack would command a $50 million dollar contract. To me that's way too high for a Center. That kind of money could get JPP,Vernon,Jackson and we could go the route of Ben Jones or Time Barnes for half that or just draft one

HaRdH3ad
Don't know if I trust Walter football for free agent info but I agree with the second guy, if it anywhere I rather us spend a chunk the oline is one of them.

They're just updates from beat writers ect. Not them breaking the news. Btw looks like we are trying to resign Scofield right now too. ROMERO
makes sense for a three time pro bowler

Sun Tzu 7
If we learned anything last season it was how important the center position can be. It's not just blocking.... it's making the right reads and calling out the right protections and of course there's properly snapping the ball. If they're going to overpay I have no problems if it's on the oline.

DMT11
Ben Jones is a top 100 free agent Mack is impact guy - Jones for 5 and Mack for 10 - I mean there is a sizable difference in talent there - Jones would be a little upgrade over person from a snapping point but hes not a stud - very weak FA class for centers

The Pro Bowl has no criteria of what makes someone the best in the league. WTF are you even talking about? The average fan picks who they want in it. They make think a player is great and that is the reason why they select them, but that is not necessarily so, and even then do you really think the average fan knows what a good player is or is not, or that they know about players in general between all the teams to know who is better than the next? They are probably picking guys from teams they like and going by what other people are mentioning about a guy. The more the media mentions a specific player the more likely fans pick that person because they are more aware of them. This is why Pro Bowl players overwhelmingly come from teams with winning records rather than not. Even if the person is a a great player, if there team sucks, chances are they will be overlooked in the Pro Bowl. AmaZze
I'm sure TD will low ball him and draft a center from sunbelt conference with our third pick.
MAD597
Don't care sign him. We always have tons of cap room but never go out and get quality FA's to fill our holes. The OL has been a disaster for 7 years pay the man whatever he wants to come here. Not only do we have the cap room the cap is going to increase each year and at 30 he could play another 5-7 years at center. If we establish a consistent and good OL for Ryan he will thrive and our team will win. That to me is worth it.

That being said, if this is indeed true, for $50 million, sorry but pass. There are other Centers that could give us similar play (or minimal drop off) for much less. If Mack were a few years younger and not coming off a down year, then I would be OK with that type of money.
insight
Thank Shanny Boy Wonder for this self inflicted wound. With Hawley on the roster you had someone who was serviceable and competent. Now we are in desperate need of a Center, Guard, #2 Wr without mentioning the holes of Defense. No need to pay Alex Mack that kind of money because we are no where close to being a superbowl contender. The new cleavand browns of the south, RISE UP! Leggggggo
If it's $50M, I'd be ok with a decent signing bonus and an end loaded contract based on incentive pay / roster bonuses since Mack is getting older. If he plays every game and well, pay the man. If he doesn't, easy to get rid of him.
KRUNKuno
This would be an awful, awful move. After Jacksonville dropped out, Mack's camp knew they could drive the price up on us. We're so desperate we're willing to give a center over 50mil, but can put a penny towards our pass rush. Guys like Mario Williams getting 8mil per... We put so much money into the offense, and pocket lint investments into our defense.....typical Falcons.
