Intellectually Honest
I hope I am dead wrong, but it seems based on the rumors, that TD will indeed go after overpriced old free agents in a desperate attempt to keep his job. By doing so he will saddle the Falcons yet again with too much money in all the wrong places, and after he gets fired next year, the Falcons will be paying for his blunders for the next few years. I have a sick feeling about this. I know that fans want to see him spend instead of being too frugal, but at the same time the team needs to spend wisely. Based on TD's blunders in the draft when things look desperate, I think he will jump the gun and overpay big time to get what he wants. Don't be surprised if he pays Mack, for example, 11 million + per year, just to get the guy; not to mention whatever guaranteed money Mack will receive. Mack is a good player, but no center is worth that much, especially at that age. Desperate men do desperate things.
kiwifalcon
He's damned if he does he's damned if he doesn't. At this point in time I believe there is a % on this board who are just going to bag TD regardless good = someone else BAD = TD regardless. Nothing personal but signing 1 30 yr old player that is at the top 5 of his position for a position as important as Center which is a top 5 position to me is not going after overpriced free agents. It's going after your weakest spot on the team and upgrading it with the best player available to do so. If you consider Iloka, Benjamin, Irvin, Laurinitis and Mitchell Schwartz also old free agents i don't know what to tell you. Those are the main guys he has been looking at so far and their all under 30 yrs old. Nelson and Mack are the guys over 30 but even then their not that old and are still playing at a high level and many other teams besides us are going after their services as well because of their talent they played at. Kiwi bro even if we get like 3 or 4 of them i would be thrilled. Mack + Benjamin + Iloka and im happy with FA. Anything else on top of that is just money. That allows us to target Edge rusher, MLB, WLB, and RG in the draft all positions that are very strong. **** even RG wouldn't be mandatory as Person can slide over to RG. You put Mack at center and either Schraedder or Schwartz on the opposite side of Person and i bet he can get the job done at RG at atleast a solid level without having to worry about snapping the ball. I'm with you Bro. You know I've had my unrealistic FA wants and I get that from a lot of fans but now I've kind of locked in where we are going now and who where going with.People say we'll overpay for Mack if we go there but seriously the 32 teams involved in FA have upto a billion $$$$ to spend and youcan bet a lot of them will be giving it a fair nudge. We're not in that position to push the boat out as far as alot want us to your perscribed solution carries alotof sense for me and is about where we are financially. Yeah man tons of money out there and it's just gonna go up i truthfully don't worry about the cap to much as i do alot of the cap stuff my self and checking out contracts alot. The regular season is cool and i like watching football but my favorite time of the nfl is the offseason during the combine, draft, and FA periods. Capologist taught me a crap ton of stuff about the cap back in the days and i have done alot more research myself on contracts and stuff like that since then. The 1 conclusion i have come up with is the cap number is just that a number and no matter what you want you can find a way to get it by rearranging numbers on contracts to make bigger hits later and still get what you want now. Then the next offseason go more with the draft and lighter on FA when you have less needs to recoup some of that money and buildiing depth in the draft. So players numbers don't phase me much unless it's just crazy for what talent i think they bring to the field like with Dawyne Allens almost 8 mil cap hit he got from indy i would have never given him that much lol. Now on to more important thing i just noticed after the board change i lost a CRAP TON OF POSTS. It did it to me once before on the last change before this one. I was at around 9k posts on the 1st one they finally gave me them back. and this time i was around 15k posts and now im back down to 3k O.o I feel violated XD Wonder if i can get someone to fix them again. But ... but that would mean the OP is just overreacting based on our interest in James Lauranitis and ignoring everyone else we've been linked to! How about the Falcons upgrade center without overspending? Is that an option or do you think like TD the only way to solve things is by overpaying for it? It is like someone who drives a beat up lemon and decides they need a better car, so they are looking to buy a Mercedes Benz for 100k that is used, has 200k miles on it, and starting to show it's wear and tear. How about the Falcons go for long term problem solving rather than just trying to band aid everything? Also how many times have we seen free agents do great on one team and totally bomb on another. You guys act as if you can just plug and play guys and that they will match their performace from one team to the next. It doesn't work that way. Flying Falcon
My prediction: Shanahan will drag this offense to his dwelling place; he77. And Quinn will end his 3 year Falcon's HC career on a sour note for being a puppet of Kyle. And it will take us 10-15 years to clean up the mess that those two will leave behind. And quality FA will not want to touch us with a 20 ft pole.
