Matter of fact he put cement in roddys shoes to make him slow as ****. Spts1 Posted March 7, 2016 Share Posted March 7, 2016 (edited) I agree......... When the Falcons brought Shanahan in, they set themselves back another 3 years minimum. You dont bring in a guy that causes you to have to revamp your whole offensive line personnel to fit his scheme, when you needed to use your assets on defense. Then, Shanny made it worse because now they HAVE to get a number two receiver, meanwhile, the defense still sucks.......... Don't give me that "our schedule is tougher this year" crap because nobody knows how good any of the teams on that schedule will be until next season. Maybe the majority of the time, but I do remember one instance against the Saints where 'Stone Smash' tried to nonchalantly place the nose of the football between his cheeks. I thought he wanted to give our fumbling rookie rb shared snaps. I thought he was the one calling plays and personell. Keep blaming the players. But with the talent we have on offense, it is painfully clear we underachieved. 21st in scoring and our 8yr vet pro bowl qb taking a huge step back. Koetter installed his 4 vert offense here, but he didn't cost us games by being hard headed about keeping what worked when he arrived. The coach chooses the players (in this case a C who can't snap), chooses who to feature (in this case not featuring an array of WR, but just one) and sets the game up so that it is easier for players to execute (because he put them in advantageous positions.) So, if you're going to say nothing negative is the coaches fault, and it's all because of the players...why even have a coach? The whole point of a coach is to make it easier and more likely that his guys execute. So, holding him to their execution is exactly what you do. Because they're all responsible..that's the entire point. I could pull any coach, and tell him to run power sweep right every single play, unless it's 3rd and long, and then throw a post. Fans could easily say that if the OL just blocked better, and the RB hit the crease better, we'd be winning. But the entire point is...I've put my team in a bad position to execute...because the other team knows what's coming. If I don't use my entire arsenal, or if I put my guys in positions they're not good at...that's on me as a coach. Now, if I put them in great position to succeed and they botch it...yes, that's on them. But let's take QB. If you implement a system that requires 3 reads, and you put an OL that only allows for 2 reads...there are going to be a lot of INTs or sacks.
