Falcons’ gender-based questions may have been widespread

Let's be real these questions absolutely pertain to the NFL. It was worded terribly, but the two players cited in the article are great examples of players who had soft skin and couldn't handle adversity.

Being gay doesn't make you soft skinned. I'd argue we've had several soft skinned players that arent gay. Hageman comes to mind. I couldn't give you a name of a gay man that wasn't in the NFL though because they clearly aren't allowed to tell anyone about it.

The Cleveland Browns are looking like a model franchise, compared to the Falcons.    I wonder who our FO is going to try to make a scapegoat on this one... I think some of our long term execs are going to find the league office a bit more decisive and less forgiving than our 73 year old owner.

This is very upsetting because it's really becoming true. One thing I can't stand is sloppiness when it comes to business. If we lose another draft pick I am going to become a Bucs fan.

Stupid BS from this front office given the social changes that have been going on lately in this country. These dumb ***** in our front office should know better and have better control over these coaches. Stupid as **** and could very well undermine the current coaching staff

I think all NFL coaches should be fired and prosecuted the the fullest extent of the law for this clearly sanctioned homophobic, bigoted and probably racists hatred. (I'm sure somehow there is a racist, homophobic, bigoted white make involved somewhere along the lines) I would hope Loretta Lynch can bring the harshest of punishment down by the Justice Department who should start an immediate investigation into the NFL and all teams should lose draft picks.

The PC mob is whipping thus up Int as much of a frenzy as they can and the media wil, be all too willing to help stoke the flames of division. Most likely trying to pressure the Falcons into firing the coach for asking a stupid question. This is textbook PC mob tactics, not happy until someone loses their career over a stupid question.

I take your point, but this isn't a case of political-correctness gone awry, nor is it thin-skinned liberals wanting their pound of flesh. It is the fact that this employee broke labour laws and NFL rules by asking a player to discuss his sexual orientation, after both he and his colleagues had been told not to do so by the NFL. Because of his actions, the Falcons reputation has suffered and it calls into question our ability to be welcoming and tolerant to members of the LGBT community (even though Eli Apple in this case is straight).

If this coach worked in human resources at any other company, he would most likely be terminated. Potential employees shouldn't have to feel pressured to out themselves to a complete stranger just to get a job. That's the issue here.

Worry about your own azz

My azz is fine. I'm not the one saying I'm going to become the fan of another team if such and such happens. I'm a fan through thick and thin. But if you want to jump ship then more power to you. Just don't come crawling back when the Falcons in it big.

One point missing in this discussion. These labour laws also protect women too, who are being hired by teams as coaches, communications practitioners and other influential roles in the NFL. By not clamping down on those who act in opposition to these laws, we open ourselves to situations where qualified women are denied jobs because the interviewer has asked them to discuss their sexual history and determined that they are too promiscuous or not of the right character to represent the Falcons.

It is easy to sit and judge as a straight, white male because none of this would likely affect you in the workplace. This is a big deal. It isn't something that should be ignored or quietly accepted. The Falcons organisation should be better than this, and we should be demanding that they be better too.

Great this story just keeps getting worse.  I still don't even get the purpose of the question.  Because if the player said yes I do like men and then didn't get drafted it opens the organization up to lawsuits.  And most players would simply lie anyway if they felt a team was digging for the purpose of getting rid of "undesirable" players.  So the whole question is meaningless and ridiculous.

So the new narrative is a law was broken? How does anyone know that? What if the player misinterpreted a perfectly legal, legitimate question? What if the player was exaggerating what happened just to get a reaction as happens all the time? What if the player has a history of making stuff up?

To state unequivocally laws were broken is absurd at this point. To call for the firing of someone based on this is even more absurd.

Just look at recent history. Hands up don't shoot was a complete lie propagated  by the media. It never happened, the kid charged the police officer trying to take his gun from him and this is a fact supported by witnesses and forensic evidence.

set the torches and pitchforks down, this isn't Salem.

i feel like Quinn gives his coaches a lot of freedom. I think he's had conversations with them like do what you know how to do and let me know if I can help, also make smart decisions for the team.

I love this approach as I currently work in an environment like this. Most people have enought sense to know what's right and to do what's right and this approach typically creates a more responsible team that work together.

Unfortunately, there's always that one guy in the room that doesn't get the concept and so he just does whatever he wants to and when the junk hits the fan it makes the boss (Quinn) look like he doesn't have control of his people.
