ShanghaiDirtyBird
If we cut Roddy so we can carry over $2 million in cap space to next season honestly I'm going to be kind of p issed. I totally understand that he wasn't worth $6 million. But if you're only saving $2 million by cutting him this season, they dang sure better spend it to make the team better. Javader09
They have not the first clue on how to make this team better. TD, Quinn and Shanny are the new three stooges. Show some class when you cut a 10 year player or lose a locker room. This year could be real ugly if the plan does not work.
insight
Roddy made it no secret he wanted to retire a Falcons and choose to release him via text message. What happens if Julio or another receiver goes down in training camp?

coastiemike
As the day has gone on, I've gone from a little sadness to a good bit of anger. Agree with OP.
Dirtybird56
We're going to have rollover as usual. The move was about cutting an over the hill WR who can't produce at a high enough level at this point, the FO doesn't give a **** about the 2mil

Keeping Roddy just bought time to find a solid replacement without you reduce the risk of a Joe Hawley situation.
coastiemike
I completely understand the move to cut an aging WR to get younger and faster. But, you don't cut someone by text. It's in pretty poor taste. You could have called him in last week or waited two weeks or whatever.

PK Manley
I've said for a while that this shouldn't be a cap move because there is little cap benefit to releasing him, and I honestly doubt that was the main reason. I think it was just time to move on.

We lost Hankerson so we already needed a #2, it's not like we have tons of talent at the position. TD and Quinn can save all the " We Nailed Free Agency" B.S and put a solid product on the field. If this comes back to bite us like releasing Joe Hawley it will not be forgotten. Especially when we paid guys like Reed big money and they did not produce. stizz
Roddy gone, but Matt 3.3 million Bryant is still around? I like Bryant, but if we're cutting underperforming vets, Bryant has got to go.

Highly doubt we spend all our FA money. I feel like every year we keep about $7mill left over.
HaRdH3ad
You've got to be kidding me, stop crying about the text, he was out of town. They probably had been trying to reach him, plus had no clue when he would return. What do you want them to do hold out for him not knowing if he would be back in time for them to use that cap money for free agency? I wouldn't either... Do you really believe the Falcons are going to use 29-30 Million in cap space within the next month. Would you want a place you were with over 10 years to let you know they fired you via text. It's tacky and classless.

How do you know he wasn't or hadn't been avoiding their efforts to reach out to him for a meeting in fear he would be cut. I'm not saying they will use all that money but that 2 more million you might give a player that u didn't have before. If I had to bet, I would say roddy is overseas with fitZ, and bolden doing that trip they do every year & IF that's the case that guy could be gone an entire month. I'm sorry I just don't think they should wait especially if they tried to reach out to him and may have been ignored. Dont just be closed minded all these scenarios are possible... HaRdH3ad
If the guy had so much pride he wouldn't take a pay cut I wouldn't put it past him that he had so much pride he didn't want to take the calls or texts in effort to meet with him...think about it

"Ain't know charity" Glad to know somebody's bringing great perspective, spelling, and grammar to the board all at once. The fact is we only saved $2 million in cap space by cutting a team leader and the best receiver in franchise history. But at least we know now that this "ain't know charity"
