KRUNKuno
Chop and cut blocks are essential to this ZBS. One of the keys is to get defensive linemen on the ground quickly to open uo holes for the running game. So will we see a death of ZBS? PeytonMannings Forehead
Should have been done away with years ago. I think if it does go through there will be a steep adjustment period because everything is going to have to be re-taught. Now the second blocker will have to engage above the waste instead of cutting his legs out from under him. Could be ugly for a lot of teams. JDaveG
Chop blocks and cut blocks aren't the same thing. Would it affect things? Sure. They're talking about making a high/low illegal on running plays even if the two lineman executing it start the play next to each other. That's not illegal now. But it isn't just Shanahan's system -- a whole lot of other teams use similar blocking principles, and not just in zone systems. It may disproportionately affect ZBS systems, but not exclusively. And it will not result in the "death" of any one system. It may force some folks to adapt. That's the way things go anytime a rule is changed. toadfishtom
Somebody should chop block Shanahan.

I thought a second blocker already was required to engage above the waist. If you cut someone while the original blocker is still on them it's a penalty no? Yeah that's how it's supposed to go, but the article I just read said it was legal as long as the two blockers are lined up next to each other before the play starts and it's a running play. Which I find a little overly complicated to me.
Godzilla1985
As far as I know CHOP blocks have been illegal for a while. CUT blocks are not illegal & are not on the "chopping block" (BA-BUMP-CHEE! Thank you I'll be here all week). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chop_block_(gridiron_football) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cut_blocking
KRUNKuno
This new chop block elimination refers to players not being able to chop a defensive linemen that isnt lined directly in front of him to begin the play. Thats a very crucial part to our offense.
