Signing Benjamin doesn't mean Roddy has to be gone. We have two roster spots tied up to special teams with Weems and Hester. They're both old and expendable IMO

No you can't pay Roddy that cash for being used for so little.

If they signed Benjamin what is Roddy's role we got Hardy & Williams who can man the slot no doubt we'll be looking for a big TE target to me if this goes through the writing is on the wall for Roddy.

I'd cut him and take the cap space.

Only way i would be cool with Benjamin is if we draft a bigger WR as well.

You must be one of the ones wanting Roddy cut then because if we sign Benjamin and draft another WR then we'd have to get rid of Roddy because we'd had Julio, Benjamin, Hardy, and Drafted WR. There's just not enough passes or money to go around.

I'd have zero gripe if we cut Roddy. He held out for his contract a few years ago, hasn't produced, and is unwilling to take a pay cut.

Roddy on a per catch basis was just as good in 2015 as he was in 2013 and 14. The problem was his targets went way down last year. That is why I keep saying he's still valuable if we use him.

His targets are way down because he doesn't get open and because Shannys offense is built to feed targets to the X receiver.  The idea that "he is still very valuable as a slot WR" isn't right to me. He already played in the slot a good bit last year and he has to be hidden in bunch sets to get open. I don't dislike Roddy or anything, but his time has come. Just like Reggie Wayne in Indy last year and Colston in New Orleans this year.

If we want to keep him thats fine. He isn't worth his contract, but its not like we are dying for more money or anything.

If Benjamin is going to get paid more than $5 million a year then I would much rather use that money on the interior offensive line or a difference maker on D.

$6 million a year could probably get you any center or guard not named Mack or Osemele l.

Nah you'd just defer Roddy's cap hit over and add Hesters money to the cap. There would be negligible money lost in signing Benjamin your just swapping money around.

There was quite a few times last year that Roddy was open and didn't get the ball. A few of those times Matt looked at him but didn't throw to him for some strange reason.

Yep.

Cutting Roddy (post June 1st) is $4.2M in savings & $1.9M in dead money
Cutting Hester is $3M in savings & $833k in dead money
Cutting Weems is $935k in savings & $212k in dead money

So, $8.135M in cap savings & $2.945M in dead money. Benjamin's cap hit likely won't be $8M in year one of a new deal, so you can easily make the money work.

They're talking a lot about how this is the slowest WR draft class in a while. Quinn and Shanny desperately want some speed and it's certainly an aspect we've been missing for years and years now on offense, minus Julio of course. Not surprised Benjamin's on our radar

As I was watching the WRs run the forty in the combine I was thinking the same thing. If they are looking for someone to take the top off of the defense it is going to be hard to find it in this years draft.

Man he'd be my 1st FA signing he covers multiple needs for the team also and only us and the Chargers are looking at him at this stage as reported.

For me though he stepped up last year when his #er was called and if you watch footage of this guy and I saw it multiple times he plays a bit bigger than his size. You can see opposing CB's give him a little more cushion because of his deep speed.

You add him and a big TE I think the it goes along way helping this offense.

NFL Media's Mike Mayock said that the 2016 class of receivers is the slowest that he can remember.

With receivers running the 40-yard dash on Saturday, Mayock's come away less-than-impressed (at least in terms of that aspect of their game). Some of the slower times came out of the blue. For instance, Ohio State WR Braxton Miller--who many thought would light the combine aflame with his athletic ability--ran unofficial 40's of 4.50 and 4.55. Nothing wrong with those times, but they aren't the blow-your-socks off numbers some expected. Considerably more slow, Auburn WR Duke Williams, who logged a 4.73 40. Mayock deemed that "awful." That doesn't even hold a candle to Mississippi State's De'Runnya Wilson, though, who ran a 4.90 in the event, enough for Rotoworld's Josh Norris to quip "more like De'Jogya" on Twitter.
