AndySG
I think that most will agree that we need to improve our defense in whatever way possible. As it is draft season, I thought that I would have a look around at an under the radar prospect. Javon Hargrave earned rave reviews at the East/West Shrine game and some thought that he might earn a trip to the senior bowl. It wasn't to be, but the reports were enough to make me want to look into him. He attended South Carolina State, so he's definitely a small school guy and the competition wasn't impressive, but he had 37 sacks and 63 tackles for loss in 45 games. That's insane. Those are Madden numbers - pure and simple. He is currently projected as a day three pick and I think that we would be crazy not to strongly consider him at that point. I'm not going to tell you about what I like about him yet - just sit back and enjoy utter, utter dominance
kiwifalcon
He's got brutal hand usage. Bad competition obviously but he is dominant and has the motor and the above mentioned to be successful. The most encouraging thing I'm seeing is its not all just strength the guy has a myriad of moves.I wish Hageman had this sought of array. If he was a day 3 pick 4th round pull the trigger. I also think this kid goes in the first 100 picks
AndySG
His swim move is a thing of beauty. I'm really looking forward to seeing what he can do with some good defensive line coaching. He goes past players before they even realise the ball has been snapped.
kiwifalcon
The more and more you look the better it is for selecting a DT. I see CBS/draft scout only have him rated the 11th best prospect gotta say that's great for us.
PapaJoe
DT is stupid deep with quality this draft, which can make the entire group actually fall because the Supply is high in a normal draft class scenario. Depending on the Demand and how other positions rate, and are in demand, will affect where the DTs start coming off the board at a faster pace. I think the draft is thin on quality at some positions compared to the quality of the DTs so they may go quickly anyway, even though there are so many good ones. I would not be at all surpised to see the 12th DT off the board by early 3rd Rd. and I am pretty certain there are going to be some guys go quickly that will surprise a lot of fans. Smiler11
I really liked him at the shrine game, looks dominant.
AndySG
I am expecting around 10 DTs to go off the board in the first two rounds. Daniel Jeremiah has 6 in the first round of his most recent mock.

Like m2Falcon said above, the position is super deep, so how many teams will take one versus take something else hoping another good DT will be there 32 picks later. Draftnut57
Just my guess and thoughts, I'd love for us to get him in the second rd.
Draftnut57
Maybe we could get him in the 2nd and trade down a few picks and pick up a 5th or 6th round pick,, That'd be nice...Only thing is , I'm not sure we could trade down and still get him..I'd love for us to draft him what ever he would take. The O.D.B
I've been dieing to see some vids of this guy. Now that I've seen him, I'm not as impressed as I thought I'd be. It's probably the level of the competition that's keeping me from being impressed, I mean he's either unblocked or just pushes his guy back 6 yards like the guys a highschool player, which won't happen in the nfl. I'd love to see him against higher level competition. My favorite DT is Vernon Butler, even above the higher ranked guys.

I agree with the competition bit but the pieces of his game are there and I like the fact you saw a full array of moves. Not just power. For emits his hands that first caught my eye there very voilent wheather he bulls swims or rips he moves his opposite. Gotta say he did performance against better competition at the Shrine Game.

However, each year they promote several guys that look good in drills but don't do much in the game itself. I missed the game so, I'm not sure what he actually did. But, that doesn't really matter either as a few years back I was high on Zach kerr of Delaware and he didn't do much in the game but has had a job with the Colts since he came out, also Ellis for the Raiders. Did he do well in the actual game?

I can understand your concern, but he bursts through the line EVERY play, even if double-teamed. There's not much more he can do.
Beast-N-Da-Sheetz
I like Hargrave but my sleeper DT in the draft is Austin Johnson out of Penn St.https://youtu.be/YY6SoLUVAOI 6'4, 323 lbs. Was a monster on Penn St. Dline with 78 tackles, 15 for loss, and 6.5 sacks. Didn't stand out at the Senior Bowl but his play on the field speaks for itself. Would be a great pick in the 3rd rd. cnasty
I think the small school/lack of talent arguments go out the window when a kid is blowing up things. Think Khalil Mack and Aaron Donald. Not saying this guy is the level of either of those guys, but that argument holds little water when a kid is just beasting.

While this guy looked dominate in the video you posted, what also stuck out to me just as much was the fact that there were two other players on his team in the backfield with him on nearly every play. It also might be a scheme thing, but he seems to have a VERY predetermined read on every single play, so much that several times he didn't take on a blocker and a guy just went through the gap he didn't occupy, luckily his team seemed to be much better than the one they were playing and it rarely matter. That passing game for the other team was brutal to watch, I've seen high school teams that have a better passing attack.
