Salary cap going up

Recommended Posts

Man, I was kind of hoping it wouldn't rise quite this much.  I think last year's sub-par FA class was largely due to cap-strapped teams getting extra space and being able to retain their priority players.   Then you had to overpay to get the lower quality players that did hit FA.  Maybe it will cause more guys to test the market though.

Either way, we're probably going to have to overpay to be active in FA, but we'll have plenty of money to do so.

Serious question, has it ever gone down? Seems like it goes up every year. Is this news?

Only once.  When the new CBA was signed in 2011.  It stayed pretty much the same from 2009 to 2013 though.  Since then it will have risen about $32 million in 3 years, which is the most it's ever increased in such a short period of time.

Doesn't make a difference really. Goes up for everyone. Only thing it does is bail out teams who miss manage the cap like the taints

Also might help a few teams secure a player that was cap prohibitive before.  If you got 10M in cap, you may not want to sign a 7M guy you had your eye on but with 21M, you make that deal.  It helps teams that have cap issues and teams that utilize most of their cap.

And a  twelve million dollar increase immediately takes teams like Miami and New Orleans from deficit to surplus
