In both Turner and Roddy's case, yes they were declining but their OCs pushed them off a cliff. Kutty tried to get a Quidget more snaps and Shanny got starstruck and locked on Julio.

OP failed to mention Turner had 11 TDs and ran over SEA in the division round in his final year. Roddy had 84 yards on 8 targets in his first game but didn't see 8 targets again for ten weeks.

The question is...

Is he worth the money he's due in 2016??

WTF is everybody trying to avoid that basic question. If you want to make it an emotional decision, go ahead and keep up your nonsense.

RW is one of my top 3 favorite falcons. But I'm not gonna be blinded by emotion over doing what is best for the team. Period.

Nice try bro, but you have to look really hard and long to find anyone who disagrees that our beloved WR is in decline. And has been for two years.

Does he have a few games in the tank where he could bring value in the slot and tear up a few LBers? Sure.  But not for big dollars.

This is all about his contract and being smart about moving forward.  Our love for RW is not in dispute here at all brotatochip...

If you were TD, would you consider it wise to pay his current contract for 2016?

If TD were me we wouldn't be in this situation.

One of the reasons Roddy only had 43 catches was because he only had 70 targets. That's a catch rate of 61.4%. Why is this important? Because it's right in line with White's catch rate for his career.

  • 2006 - 30 Catches, 66 Targets - 45.5%
  • 2007 - 83 Catches, 137 Targets - 60.6%
  • 2008 - 88 Catches, 148 Targets - 59.5%
  • 2009 - 85 Catches, 165 Targets - 51.5%
  • 2010 - 115 Catches, 179 Targets - 64.2%
  • 2011 - 100 Catches, 181 Targets - 55.2%
  • 2012 - 92 Catches, 143 Targets - 64.3%
  • 2013 - 63 Catches, 99 Targets - 63.6%
  • 2014 - 80 Catches, 122 Targets - 65.6%
  • 2015 - 43 Catches, 70 Targets - 61.4%
  • TOTALS - 779 Catches, 1310 Targets - 59.4%

As you can see the drop off on Roddy's catch rate in 2015 from his previous 3 seasons is minimum. Not enough to justify his lack of receptions as a reason why he needs to be cut. In fact, White averaged 11.8 yards per catch in 2015. How does that compare to his previous two seasons? I'm glad you asked. In 2013, White averaged 11.3 yards per catch and in 2014 he averaged 11.5 yards per catch. So there's been no drop off there whatsoever. What does one say about Roddy having just 1 TD in 2015? How about his lack of red zone targets? I don't have those numbers available to me because I don't know where to get them at but I'm guessing he had very few red zone targets in 2015 and it's pretty hard to score touchdowns when you're not used around the goal line.

How does this compare to Julio Jones? I'm glad you asked. Let's look at Julio Jones.

  • 2011 - 54 Catches, 96 Targets - 56.3%
  • 2012 - 79 Catches, 129 Targets - 61.2%
  • 2013 - 41 Catches, 60 Targets - 68.3%
  • 2014 - 104 Catches, 164 Targets - 63.4%
  • 2015 - 136 Catches, 204 Targets - 66.7%
  • TOTALS - 414 Catches, 653 Targets - 63.4%

So as you can see Roddy's 2015 catch rate is only slightly less than Julio's catch rate for his career.

In short this article citing Roddy's lack of production in 2015 as reason to cut him was taken totally out of context. Roddy's lack of production in 2015 can be equated to a direct lack of opportunity, not some sort of major decline.

Even with his chronic knee injury, Roddy White's production on per catch basis in 2015 was right in line with what he did in 2013 and 2014. Sure that's a decline from his peak performance but that's expected given his age. But the guy that wrote this post in acting like Roddy suffered a major drop off in 2015 compared to 2014 and before is completely wrong and that is what the numbers I posted prove. When you take numbers out of context you can make them say anything and that is what the writer of this article did. It was strictly a hate on Roddy article with a biased theme to it.

lol, I don't hate him and understand now from the response. Fans that knock him, don't realize how big he has been for us. I just think we need to move on and see a better future. lol, nahh if someone is knocking him for what he has done.....that's a shame. Carry on my honorable falcon brother and tell them like it is!

I didn't say you hate him. I said the guy that wrote the article wrote it was hating on Roddy. There's no need to move on. Find another receiver? Sure. We don't have to get rid of Roddy to add another receiver. Julio, Roddy, Hardy and add another receiver to the mix. 4 solid options.

I know that lol. We don't have to get rid of Roddy? Do you understand what we could get just in defense for that money?

If the Falcons were in a salary cap crunch you would have a point but the Falcons have plenty of salary cap space from never spending any money. Have the Falcons ever ranked in the top 10 in the NFL in salary since Dimitroff has been here? Seems every year the Falcons go into the season with a boatload of free cap space and then we wonder why the team is so bad. Could it be because we never sign any difference makers in free agency?

True, we need to stop nickel and dime'in every dang thing.  I tell ya what hurts us also, is not doing trade's and picking up guys during the season. If we are serious about a championship, we have to spend and stop signing players that just left an old folks home or the emergency room.
