Falcons leaning toward keeping Roddy White

Round 4 is the earliest

You're probably right (I certainly hope that you end up being right), but hypothetically, what if there was a WR available in the second round that the staff legitimately pegged as a potential Pro Bowl caliber receiver? Do you go with need and pass up on the potential pro-Bowler to go alongside Julio?

2  things that makes me think we will take a WR early

1. We have Julio and 3 slot WRs... We need a WR that can win on the outside. He tried to find one in hankerson

2.In that article that has Quinn saying that he is learning to scout WR's .. He said we would be in trouble .. We need another big play option.

When I say early round I'm not saying in the 1st round .... But I do think the 2nd and 3rd round are options .

I do think FA will help decide that tho

What is so ******** hard about "scouting" Wide receivers.  He saw WR every freaking day going up against the best WR in the league and had to game plan for them. Is it really that hard to tell who can make plays and who cant?

We would not have beat Carolina this year if it wasn't for Roddys clutch 3rd catches on multiple drives. Is he over paid for his contract, sure you could argue that and my loyalty will always be to the falcons above any individual player. However, I think he can still be productive and does deserve another year.

I'm glad it's a decision I don't have to make.  If it's strictly production based he clearly isn't worth the cap hit.  But winning football games is more than just that.  And IF we let him go, I can already write the script... He'll go to TB with Dirk and light us up twice a year and the boards will be unbearable.

I don't care either way. If he stays, good, I hope he improves from last season and puts in some good work. If he is gone, fine, I hope they have a better replacement in place or in mind.

I'm the same.  Roddy is in the running for my all-time favorite Falcon, but I'm a fan of the team first.  If he is hindering the team, he sadly would need to go.

I'm optimistic, but he is obviously declining.  I'll be sad if he leaves, but I'll understand.  I'll be elated if he stays, but that won't last long if he isn't contributing and can't help the team.  I actually hope he has a couple more productive years in him and retires as a Falcon.

The league is full of wrs that put up RW numbers last yr for less money. RW had like 40 catches last yr and he old. Mohamed Sanu is a name to consider. I'd much rather pay Sanu what Roddys making and even add some to it. RW IS DONE....STICK A FORK IN HIM. Sanu is 6 yrs younger and getting better. With said I'd like to keep RW if he'd take a pay cut and be a 3rd 4th wr. RW will never be close to what he use to be....

The only reason he had that many catches is because A. He played freaking OT for half the season. And B. Most throws his way were last ditch efforts by Ryan. White was never the number one read on any play

Not worth his contract plain and simple....another pizz poor decision by TD

The Offense was never really the problem... The Oline was. Roddy is still as solid as Larry Fitz. We Move him to Slot give another guy an Opp to take the side opposite of Julio. I Honestly wouldn't mind if we grab a receiver in the 1st. Let Hardy and Roddy Rotate to keep him fresh and continue to mold Hardy B4 Roddys Gone. I say we let him carry out his contract and if he wants to Retire then we should let him OR if he wants step back and grab a backup spot while grooming the others for another 2 to 3 years. I wouldn't be mad about that at all. Either way.... It be Demis Best decision to keep him. He is not our issue, never was, and never will be. The Oline is the issue and has been for years now. The Lines. No other sport. There were some bumps every so often with other positions but none that proved to bein need of an upgrade. Dline opposite of Beasley. Oline.... No other positions need an upgraded, just mended. WE DON'T NEED A DT. We need a DE and Olineman. A TE behind Tamme, a possible replacement for Moore. It'll be hard replacing him. Offensive cords plan around him because they know he's a hitter.... when he's healthy that is. Tru and Alford are our corners. I can see our draft going WR/TE - DE/ILB - FS/Oline - Oline/FS.... I know Quinns a Defensive Guy but I can see us grabbing a big Name DE in FA. With this possibly being Roddys last year and Ryan in his Prime Years. I think there going to Focus on the Off this year for there 1st pick. If not, I Can see Demi Making a big Jump and grab a good DE earlier in the Draft. One thing he does right is grabbing great players that stick when he trades up.  I would Guess we Go 72/25 (Offense/defense) this year in the draft. No matter the moves in the draft or FA. Roddy prob will stay because that is the best decision to be made concerning roddy.

Cutting Mud Duck wasn't the problem.  I would rather cut someone a year early versus a year late.

Having a plan to replace him that amounted to this was the problem:

They had a perfectly reasonable plan in place. The plan just didn't work as well as people would have liked.

Not sure why that is nor do I think it was foreseeable but it was unfortunate all the same.

I would absolutely hate seeing him in another team's jersey.  Hope he takes a pay cut and retires here but it won't surprise me at all if we wind up cutting him.

It was reasonable if there was any indication Konz was the guy.  The problem is 1) he wasn't, and 2) it took them FOREVER to put Hawley in, at which point the line play improved dramatically.

Kong didn't really get any snaps at C in 2012.  He played G that season.  His ability to make line calls and block after the snap were apparently not assessed very well.  Hawley wasn't any great shakes, but it was clear from the outset that they intended to work Konz and Holmes in, and neither was ready.  That in itself isn't a problem, but plan B never really materialized, especially at RT.

2014 they addressed it, I'll grant that.  They got Asamoah and penciled Hawley in at C to start with.  That and Schraeder solidified the line somewhat, though run blocking was still problematic.

I knew Shanahan was garbage before Quinn felt the need to hire him, but when he came to Atlanta and FORCED Roddy White out of the offense and TRIED to FORCE Hankerson, Mr. dropsies himself, into the offense, that was the last straw for me. Both Shanahans like to play that " favorite player" crap.  There was substance behind Deion Sanders comments about Kyle Shanahan.  Quinn made a HUGE mistake hiring Shanahan and his future with the Falcons just might be determined by Shanahan and not the Falcons defense.

I think what Dimi is saying in his leaning towards keeping Roddy and bringing up Mud Duck is that there is a tangible value to players - on-field performance, and there is an intangible value to players - locker room presence, being a good teammate, helping out younger guys and the coaching staff.

I think Dimi is telling us that while there may be diminishing returns on Roddy's on-field performance, he still retains his intangible value, and he learned his lesson from cutting the Mud Duck.

That's just my $0.02.

4 million dollars plus a year for a cheerleader ??  We need a guy who can help the team win on the field not laugh all through practice
