Djbrough's 2016 Mock Offseason Rev 2

Post Senior Bowl Mock. I used CBS for the prospect rankings.I tried to be a bit more realistic about the FA dollars, but it's still a crap-shoot. I think this addresses concerns along both lines, LB's, and safety. It also gives us a potential barn burner at receiver. This assumes back-loaded contracts.

I'd prefer to see us do more to shore up the linebacker position in free agency if possible. Also, we signed Person to a two-year deal, I believe, so he's still under contract.

I think I'd rather go get a free agent linebacker and go for Ben Jones or a center of that caliber than shell out big money for Alex Mack at this stage of his career.

Thank you for posting!

Like the Irvin and Allen signings. Mack for that much is horrible. Read up on his play the last 2 years.  His play has really fell off.

Draft is solid but the first 3 picks are unrealistic IMO. All should go higher than they are currently mocked.

Right now, everybody's big board is so skewed. I think that the combine in a few weeks will make things settle down. Using CBS, a few mocks, and some of the simulators; I've seen all of these players available where I picked them. If it shook out like this I'd be very happy, but there are a number of players that I would take at those picks and be equally as happy. Defense is so deep in this draft. In my opinion, we really need to trade down into the late first round.

As far as Mack, I don't think he was very healthy. He'll play better next year no matter where he lands. $9M is too much, but I believe that he still has 2-3 years of play  in him at a high level.

Ben Jones is inconsistent. His play was up and down all year long. I want to like him, but I can't say that I'd trust him any more than Gradkowski. Wisniewski, Paradis, or Larsen may be better options.I did hear that Jones played with a bum knee all year, and that may be why his play was so unpredictable. I'd love to get a cheaper option at center, but the draft may be the best way to do it. I don't really want to spend that kind of money on Mack, but he'd take my worries away at the position.

Good catch on Person. It's fixed now.

As for FA LB's, it's all about where we spend the money. If we get a cheaper center, then I'd pick up a FA LB and draft another DL or Center (probably Tuerk in the 4th).

I'm fine with any competent free agent center. Picked Jones because I remembered the name and because he's from Georgia and we may get him cheaper to "come home". Heh. I don't want to start a rookie center with Ryan having taken so much abuse in the last few years - want him to be comfortable on the line, not in fear for his life. I'm already just a bit concerned that he's gotten gun shy as it it!

Wishful thinking but I doubt it. That defense is stacked as it is for the most part.

Their leading sack guy is 35 (Freeney). Calais Campell wias # 2 with 5 sacks (from the inside). They wouldn't have signed Freeney mid-season if they felt comfortable about their pass rush. It's actually a realistic scenario if they fall in love with someone.
