The ONLY possible way I would even consider it is if we did a couple trade downs and picked up a bunch of extra picks. Even then: 1-This QB class sucks overall 2-I would prefer to have a decent vet backup with NFL experience I want us to have a vet also, but our luck.........one of the greatest QB's to ever play the game will come out of this draft. It happens like that lol.

For whatever reason, TD has never put a priority on having a serviceable backup behind Ryan. But then again, a lot of NFL franchises learn that lesson the hard way. caver50
I think next year would be a better year to look for a QB.

Last time he got to play for more than just a few passes in a season was 2014 with the Redskins. 5 G, 4 GS - 91/128 (71.1%), 1057 YDS (8.3), 4 TD, 3 INT - 96.4 QB Rating Sean Renfree ain't putting up those kind of numbers. Rise
It's Matt's show until his contract is up.. he is the best QB in Falcon history.. The heat is on though...Both he and their Coordinator... He's done so much, he deserves the benefit of a doubt...Plus, the Falcons won't draft a back-up that high, and take a way from their other needs. The next one will have the job from day one... Matt Schaub as a back-up...I think is possible. Still, I believe that Renfree is Ryan with a stronger arm...He was trained by David Cutcliffe.. Renfree will step-up through the pocket, and look downfield for the big play... If Ryan doesn't play in a Super Bowl under his current contract, and don't see a re-signing--because this staff would be gone. Totally new regime. For some reason his situation will not play-out like a Phillip Rivers with 2-3 coaches in seasons, and a resigning. Whether is Schaub (Short-term) or Renfree...this offense is made for a QB that can make teams pay deep for crowding the line to stop the run...(or that QB has to be able to roll-out, and move).. Manning in Denver still struggled with this, but his back-up made teams pay deep. Not the best version of the WCO for Ryan.

rugger8
I'd be ok with it, but it would have to be an incredible value for the pick.
Musikron
No I would not be okay with that. Simply put this entire off season needs to revolve around the O-line and pass rush. Fix that and we have a winning team next year. C, LB, a couple guards and a kicker and we're off to the races. If a great WR is available take him as a Roddy replacement so 84 can school him up this year before he retires.

Schaub is not a good option. 3 years ago I would have said yes to Schaub being a backup but now I don't want him anywhere near the Falcons. Schaub over the past 3 seasons has 13 TD's and 20 INTs and so many pick 6's it's stupid. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/fancy-stats/wp/2015/12/06/the-mind-blowing-statistical-improbability-of-matt-schaubs-pick-six-problem/
autigerfan
I think given our lack of draft picks, it would be a waste to use one a qb that is unlikely to challenge #2 anytime soon. I would sign a backup like Schaub for injury insurance and sign a developmental guy as an undrafted free agent to learn on the ps for a year or two. Draftnut57
Not this year,, maybe next year. We have a backup who is improveing .. Why waist a pick this year.. We need other players way to much to take a QB this year. If something happened to Ryan this year we would need to sign a vet backup anyway. Plus we only have 5 picks now... We must use them wisely ....
