ChickenBiscuit
I sat down, and wrote up a long post about where the true problems are in our defense, and I feel that every high caliber defense in the NFL has at least one top level safety. I think Ricardo Allen has potential, but will the due of Allen and Ishmael be enough to make our defense capable of reaching the top 10 ? So I guess my question is, our needs on defense are DL, LB and S. If DL will most likely be addressed in the draft since pass rushers are so expensive in free agency, what safeties' contracts are up this coming FA period ? Atlfanstckndenver
http://nfltraderumors.co/2016-nfl-free-agents-list/ That's a fairly comprehensive list of all free agents. Scroll down a little to see the safeties. I actually agree with you concerning top teams usually having one premier back end safety. Although Carolina imo contradicts that somewhat. Some will argue that Coleman was a probowl snub, but i don't see him as anywhere close to an Earl Thomas, or Devin McCourty. Ultimately Berry is the obvious leader as far as free agent safeties, with pretty much nobody even close behind him. I think a few of those guys could help our team, but there's not a whole lot in the way of impact players at the position. We need to do a better job of drafting playmakers anyway. No time like now to start.
quotemokc
A good pass rush can make safeties look good. Unfortunately it doesnt work the other way round aswell
Willy Mo
I would like to see us make a run at Berry, as unrealistic as singing him may be we should atleast shoot our shot.

A lot of INTs but get's beat way too often.
AndySG
I think we need an enforcer at Strong Safety. Having somebody who can set the tone would make teams a lot more hesitant to attack us. There are some good players in the draft between Cravens, Cash and Joseph who could do that, although Joseph is a little small. I appreciate that Kam Chancellor clones don't grow on trees, but you saw the difference in Seattle when he wasn't there at the beginning of the season. DonDaLuvMaker
I think George Iloka would be a good signing.

One thing that makes a good safety OR any good DB is a strong front seven. Matter of fact, You really will never know how strong your DB's are until the Front is solid. You can have Deion on one side, Woodson on the other, Chancellor at SS and the Honey Bagger at FS and you still may have holes in coverage if you are having to work more than five seconds. hotlanta
George Iloka in FA or Darian Thompson in the 3rd round
AndySG
Darian Thompson doesn't look as if he's going to last that long. Played well yesterday.

Yeah true, he sure had an impressive week of practice and game during the Senior Bowl. Still hoping he slips to us in the 3rd round. I was a little disappointed in Jeremy Cash, still love his upside though but didn't see enough of him.

Thompson had been a second round prospect that slid into the first round by the end of the season. Unless he runs a 4.8, vert jump 20 something inches, etc, it's possible he won't even reach our second round pick.

For me it's all about upgrading talent regardless of position.
