Ole Miss - NCAA formally charging

You do have to be careful with that. A lot of folks are quick with the "he got bought" talk, but it's a pretty serious accusation that gets made with little to no proof. It's pretty obvious what happened with Nixon though and apparently there is proof that has been taken to the NCAA.

Also, many will tell you that despite Freeze's reputation as an upstanding guy, he's actually pretty grimey and leads the charge on all the activity Ole Miss has been involved in since he got there. Seriously... you don't go from contending for the worst class in conference every year to contending for the best class in conference annually without some extra motivation inserted into the process.

I like this:

If you have facts about a violation, send it to compliance@olemiss.edu. If not, please do not slander these young men or insult their family — Hugh Freeze

And to an extent, Freeze has a point.

That's basically the same thing as places that have suggestions boxes and just throw out anything placed in there.

what i laugh at was the information ole miss released before nsd were lies.. LOL  it was supposedly a few and had nothing to do with freeze.. that was pure crap..

correct.  Hopefully the NCAA will drop the hammer on Ole Piss and some of those recruits can transfer without sitting out.

If the NCAA doesn't uncover the blatant recruiting violations, then what is the point? Ole Miss should have the dark cloud of a "lack of institutional control" charge on the crap they have willfully done just to compete in the SEC. They have pulled players away from programs that were legitimately recruiting and thus caused ripples throughout college football, hurting other programs and putting these kids in jeopardy just to be relevant on fall Saturdays.

I still feel like nothing is really going to come of this. The NCAA is a toothless governing body more obsessed with preserving some outdated idealistic dream of amateurism than fair play and safety, which are the two primary reasons it was created to begin with.

Ole Miss: The danger of paying is when a player goes to another school and tells which happened

in this case. An SEC rival school's compliance dept interviews all their newly signed players as to what happened during recruiting. And this player admitted he was paid to take a visit to Ole Miss. The compliance people are obligated to forward that info to Ole Miss who then must investigate and send the results to the NCAA. Turns out the guy who paid the kid to take the visit was a runner so that was a clue as to how OM is getting all these big time, out of market kids to take visits. The NCAA declared the player ineligible for four games at his school this past year and nothing happened to Ole Miss since the runner was not co-operative. Would not speak with anyone. But even though that is not listed in the NCAA case against OM that was likely a game changer since the kid was honest and took his punishment. He also happened to be from the school's home town that he signed with. So if the NCAA didn't make a move then that would be a tacit agreement that using runners to arrange visits was ok. This is not in the list of issues but a major problem just the same. Having the gravitas to go into another school's hometown and paying for a visit for a blue chip player then failing to sign him shows the level of arrogance the Bears/Rebs had reached and the risky behavior they had taken on. They had become invisible in their minds. What happened is documented, visits, hometown, blue chip, suspension for four games. His current school would only say it was for a rules violation then the rumors surfaced it was an OM issue during recruiting.

The spokesman added Wenzel’s resignation isn’t related to the NCAA’s three-plus year investigation into Ole Miss’ football, women’s basketball and track and field programs. Ole Miss received a notice of allegations from the NCAA on Jan. 22 and has 90 days from then to respond...

LOLOL.  right..

Someone found this on another board.  Interesting if true....

" Heard Dan Wolken talk about the Ole Miss investigation on the Gary Parrish show this afternoon. Dan said that Ole Miss had the NCAA send the Notice of Allegations to an out of state lawyer. Apparently this was done to prevent any media from doing a FOI request. An FOI response by the University would be required by a state law but wouldn't be applicable with someone living outside of the state of Mississippi."

A rumor is surfacing from connected people that the NCAA found a player willing to cooperate. UGA fans may remember Shyheim Carter, who cut the Dawgs from his list shortly after the coaching shakeup in Athens. Shy has supposedly contacted the NCAA, turned over a burner phone given to him by someone at Ole Miss, along with a statement regarding money that was offered to him on his visit.

I'm not saying this is factual, but it's out there now. We'll see if it goes anywhere. Ole Miss doesn't seem to realize they fit the profile perfectly of a team the NCAA will absolutely drop the hammer on.
