Carter...What the story with Ole Miss disrespecting Nixon's HS coach? I play for a few of the coaches that coach Nixon HS team. They are great and respectful people. One of them use to start at center for the Gators (Mike Degory).

The story ive

This new forum keeps screwing up on my phone.

The story I've heard is that Nixon was having a bad visit, made it known he wasn't enjoying it, and told several people he wanted to leave and commit to UGA. He told people before visiting OM that he was going to UGA.

One of the people he told apparently was his coach. Wish I could tell you specifically, but I don't know who nor exactly what was said. He knew Tre was planning on going to UGA and found out some really shady and sloppy stuff was done.

We should forget about Nixon flipping. He's stuck with Ole Miss now. Even if he wanted to flip, no one is going to take him with what's going on around him and OM. I'm sure he's mad himself, but that's the risk he decided was worth it.

Short sided decision to take benefits over where you really wanna be...Can't blame him honestly, many adults make the same decision in life.  Hope he learns a valuable lesson.

Thats a good point on Nixon. Even if he wanted to flip you have to worry about the NCAA coming after him for taking improper benefits.

I don't think it's a coincidence that after all that happened we suddenly went full force on flipping Tyler Simmons. Nixon is stuck with a school he really didn't want to go to that's now under the NCAA microscope.

I'm sorry but that's what the guy gets. I hope Ole Miss gets put in the shitter for cheating and Nixon has a terrible time at Ole Miss (or even gets punished for his benefits). People need to learn you shouldn't let money decide your life. If it did I wouldn't want to be a cop. I'd go be a power lineman for 60k more a year.

If someone flash a bunch of cash in front of your face when you were 18 to come to their school, you're telling you would not take it. I don't think you lay the blame on Nixon nor Tunsil.

I get it'd be hard to pass up a bunch of cash but like I said I know there is more to life than money. He clearly doesn't see it that way.

Not sure he knows that yet...but after a few years where he doesn't wanna be and maybe a transfer year wasted, hopefully he'll learn that.

I was raised knowing right from wrong, so no, that would not have been an issue.

No i wouldn't have taken it.. i was brought up that i earn whatever I got.  I wouldn't have put my eligibility in question at all.  even at that age you know right from wrong.

I'm really surprised with the idea around here that accepting money as a (likely underprivileged) kid is unthinkable. Everyone knows it happens constantly, and very few recruits get squashed for it. This type of thing can and will often be thought of by the recipient as a validation of their hard work rather than something they haven't earned yet. Many will thank God or their higher power of choice and go on about their merry way because the school is almost irrelevant to them in comparison to the cold hard cash.

Well it is an ethical issue. They know it is breaking the rules, many just don't care because it is not effectively enforced. Unfortunately it's becoming more and more like AAU with basketball. Ultimately, I think the reality is that the consequences are easy to weigh out and ignore in that position... especially if a coach or booster is there telling them everything will be fine.

I don't fault the kid nearly as much as the adults who are in positions of authority and responsibility; they are supposed to be leading by example.

It's impossible for me to say what I would have done in that situation at 18 years old. I'd like to think I would turn it down, but I won't cast stones at someone who would take it and roll. Ends are ends. I don't hold it against Tunsil, for instance... I hold it against OM for playing that game to begin with.

I'd like to think I would turn it down too...but at 18, the promise of cash and hot women is hard to say no to.  But UGA has hotter women who look amazing in Red & Black so there's that :D

The greased palm: The time-worn $100 handshake still exists -- for the idiots who aren’t savvy enough to pay athletes via more sophisticated and less-traceable methods. “You still have some awkwardly stupid people doing stupid things,” one source close to the investigative process said. “You still have boosters with too much to drink handing out cash.”

And it doesn’t end there. “Tractors, farm implements, whatever it is that’s of value to that prospect can be currency,” said NCAA enforcement director Jon Duncan. “We are working internally to try to figure out how to get at a paper trail or a good, old-fashioned bag man. It still happens.”

In this age, though, it’s more likely you’ll see -- or not see -- casino chips as a payoff. Casinos are everywhere. Chips can be handed out like nickels. Hey, if they’re worth $500, all the better. Illicit money can be laundered through a donation to a church or a non-profit organization. Once it gets there, the cash descends down a rabbit hole the NCAA has a hard time reaching.

Gift cards have long been around. They can be used for, well, everything -- a night out on the town, gas, books, even tuition for online courses. More experienced cheaters will buy the gift cards (with cash) in an athlete’s hometown so it looks like they came from the family.

Bitcoin has become a rising concern. The “cryptocurrency” is still a bit, well, cryptic. But anything that passes money in digital bits means it can be hiding. “The currency is almost unlimited,” Duncan added. “Sometimes it’s U.S. dollars, sometimes it’s Bitcoin, sometimes it’s casino chips. Sometimes it’s a house for mom and dad or a sibling.”

Newton rewrote rules but here's how cheating is still rampant in college
