Falcons Adding Ruston Webster To Personnel Department

Recommended Posts

The Falcons are adding more experience to their personnel department with the addition of former Titans general manager Ruston Webster, a source told PFT.

Earlier Tuesday the team added Phil Emery to its personnel department. Emery was the general manager of the Bears from 2012-14.

Webster was fired earlier this month after four seasons as general manager of the Titans. Webster had previously served two seasons as vice president of player personnel with the Titans after four seasons in the same role with the Seahawks.

Webster and Emery bring almost 50 combined years of NFL experience to the Falcons, who announced after the 2015 season that general manager Thomas Dimitroff would remain in his job but that staff changes would be made. Former director of player personnel Lionel Vital left the team Jan. 17.

Don't know how to feel about this. Titans were pure garbage under his watch, but the ownership in Tennessee is a strange bunch so I don't know how he was handcuffed.

He did bring in some nice looking, tough players while he was there, though.

Yep, even when Bud Adams was alive.

The whole Vince Young/ Jeff Fisher saga comes to mind.

Now, the team is on the ropes on whether it will be sold or not.

Good, we can start by signing Zach Brown.

He fell out of favor in Tennessee after the coaching change but this dude is a freak, explosive athlete that you look for. He's as fast as it gets at that position and he's more physical than scouts thought he would be coming out of Carolina. This could be one of those great under the radar signings that could pay huge dividends.

I REALLY hope the front office feels the same. As you said he's literally everything you could possibly ask for as far as athleticism in a linebacker. Super stud when it comes to physical ability.

The way I look at it, we sign him, and let the chips fall where they may. Best case scenario, we have a three down linebacker who can fill that Bobby Wagner role on defense. Worst case scenario, he can be exactly what he was in Tennessee, as a nice solid linebacker with the ability to stabilize our third down passing defense covering underneath. I really want him myself. I sincerely believe that at a minimum, he can be our weak side linebacker, covering tight ends closely and running backs out of the backfield. The thing is as you mentioned, it's not like he was a total disappointment in Tennessee. They just kinda went on in a different direction. I do want to temper my expectations, but i still think there's a chance for him to fully realize his potential in Dan Quinn's defense as our MLB. As I've said before, physically speaking, he's almost an exact clone of Bobby Wagner. Don't get me wrong here, he is NOT as good as Wagner by a long shot at this point in time, but he still actually can improve to being close.

He also ran a 4.44 40.

He is a very fast LB that the Falcons need.
