Falcons To Meet With Cowboys Secondary Coach

The Star-Telegram's Clarence Hill reports Cowboys DBs coach Jerome Henderson will interview for the Falcons' defensive-coordinator job on Friday.

The Falcons are apparently open to replacing DC Richard Smith, though they've yet to fire or reassign him. Coach Dan Quinn is the overseer of the defense, but Smith's unit was 16th in total defense, 18th against the pass, and 14th against the run. If we dive deeper, however, Atlanta gave up the most rushing touchdowns and recorded the fewest sacks. Quinn and Henderson worked together with the Jets from 2007-2008.

EDIT:

Updating a previous item, the Falcons announced Cowboys DBs coach Jerome Henderson is not interviewing for their defensive-coordinator job, but a different position on the staff.

Atlanta additionally announced DC Richard Smith will remain the defensive coordinator. Henderson is likely interviewing for the DBs coach job and possibly a promotion that comes with the assistant head coach title added to it.

  1. My sense is Jerome Henderson could be the defensive pass-game coordinator, which is Raheem Morris' role. Morris assist. head coach, flexible

  2. I hearing that Richard Smith is not going anywhere as the defensive coordinator. So, be interesting to see how this unfolds.

This is like last year when we had multiple current coaches who were predicted by the media to be coming on as our DC. We have a unique defensive coaching system, with many positions that do not exist elsewhere, so the talking heads get confused.

Yeah, Rotoworld posted an update that said Henderson may be coming onboard as a defensive assistant, possibly with the "assistant head coach" title.
