Version 4 Offseason Mock

Recommended Posts

We need to strengthen both fronts. The game is won and lose in the trenches bottom line. Once the O line and front 7 is tight, only then should we look to other positions.

Cap Space: 21 Mill

Let Go:

Chris Chester G (too old)

Gino Gradkowski C (contract will be too high, not enough value there)

Jake Long T (again too high a contract, don't see the value there anymore)

Paul Worrilow LB (just think he will probably be asking for too much to retain)

Bring Back:

Kroy Biermann DE (800 K)

Ryan Schraeder (5 Mill)

Adrian Clayborn (1 Mill)

Ricardo Allen (1.5 Mill)

Bryce Harris (600 K)

Tony Moeaki (400 K)

Charles Godfrey (400 K)

Phillip Wheeler (700 K)

Nathan Stupar (600 K)

Shayne Graham (700 K)

Total: 11.7 Mill

Free Agent Targets:

Vinny Curry DE (5 Mill)

Stefen Wisniewski OC (4 Mill)

Brandon Brooks OG (3.5 Mill)

Brandon Marshall LB (2 Mill)

Corey Wootton DE/DT (900 K)

A.J. Francis NT (700 K)

Chris Matthews WR (400 K)

Nick Toon WR (300 K)

Total: 16.8 Mill

Cuts:

Paul Soliai DT (2.5 Mill)

Devin Hester WR (3 Mill)

Justin Durant LB (2.5 Mill)

William Moore SS (3 Mill)

Matt Bryant K (2.5 Mill)

Tyson Jackson DT (1.5 Mill)

Total: 14.5 Mill

21 Mill (Beginning Cap Space)

+ 14.5 Mill (Cut players)

-16.8 Mill (Free Agents)

-11.7 Mill (Returning players)

7 Mill

Draft:

Round 1: Kevin Dodd DE (Clemson)

Get the best pass rusher left on the board. In my opinion, Dodd will be that guy.

Round 2: Su'a Cravens LB (USC)

He is a former safety, who is better suited at our weakside position. We need to add more speed to the linebacker position.

Round 3: Sheldon Day DT (Notre Dame)

We generate zero heat on the QB, so pick up some depth in the middle to contribute in the rotation that Quinn likes.

Round 4: Dadi Nicolas LB (Virginia Tech)

Sleeper, one of the biggest sleepers in the draft. Athletically and size wise he can play our strong side linebacker. Currently, he's VTechs DE, but he has the speed to run with running backs out of the back field and the size to compete with tight ends. With his experience as a pass rusher will be nasty on blitz as well.

Round 7: D.J. Reader DT (Clemson)

Nothing but sleeper picks on the back end of this draft. Nasty run stuffing, but very disruptive DT to add to our rotation.

Line up:

WR: Julio Jones, Justin Hardy, Nick Williams

TE: Jacob Tamme, Levine Toilolo, Tony Moeaki

LT: Jake Matthews, Bryce Harris

LG: Andy Levitre, Ben Garland, James Stone

C: Stefen Wisniewski, Mike Person, James Stone

RG: Brandon Brooks, James Stone

RT: Ryan Schraeder, Bryce Harris

WR: Roddy White, Chris Matthews, Nick Toon

QB: Matt Ryan, Sean Renfree

RB: Devonte Freeman, Tevin Coleman, Terron Ward

DE: Vic Beasley, Kevin Dodd, Adrian Clayborn, Dadi Nicolas

DT: Ra'Shede Hageman, A.J. Francis, D.J. Reader

DT: Sheldon Day, Grady Jarrett, Jonathan Babineaux, Corey Wootton

DE: Vinny Curry, Kevin Dodd, Corey Wootton, Kroy Biermann

SLB: O'Brien Schofield, Dadi Nicolas, Brooks Reed
MLB: Brandon Marshell, Nate Stupar
WLB: S'ua Cravens, Phillip Wheeler

CB: Robert Alford, Jalen Collins

SS: Kemal Ishmael, Charles Godfrey

FS: Ricardo Allen, Robenson Therezie
CB: Desmond Trufant, Phillip Adams

If you suggest a player too add or a position to consider, please do not forget to also state which pick will go in place of the suggest player of position.

Ex. We should go WR in the first, so don't pick Kevin Dodd, pick up a wide out instead.

First of all, let me say that I like the structure of this off season. You have correctly made the lines a priority.

I like the fact that you keep Roddy White and bring back Wheeler, Clayborn and yes, Bierman.

I doubt that Cravens will be there in the second round, but there will be other SS's to choose from. Also, Nicholas is strictly a pass rusher. He doesn't drop into coverage well, nor does he sheds blockers quick enough. I'd like to consider another LB for that pick.

Worrilow is a favorite of the coaching staff. I don't think that he is going anywhere.

Are your free agent projections realistic? Curry for 5, and Wisniewski for 4? Also, why Nick Toon?

Do not think there is any chance Cravens will fall to #50 overall - do you REALLY see that happening?

Okay first off the exact date is January 20. Way too early to be arguing exact numbers in the draft, heck the Senior Bowl hasn't even been played yet. If I didn't think he would be there I wouldn't have his name as our second round pick. You act like I tried to pick Lequon Treadwell as our second round pick. Do I see him as a first round pick no not at this point, is he a mid round guy no he's not. I think he goes in the second round at this point. But its early so...

I was aiming for atheticism at our linebacker level. Honestly I'm one of the mindset that if we have the D line where it needs to be, we could practically have Joe Smoe back there playing safety. We need to get the D line tight, then the linebackers, then Ishmael if he doesn't work. I think we are good at SS honestly. Nicholas does drop, he doesn't mostly drop but he does drop. He is quick twitch enough to cover running backs and has enough size to hold up in coverage versus tight ends. Don't really see him as a rush linebacker or DE at the next level even though he can do that. Ditto on Paul, just my own opinion of what we need to do. And I saw others put those figures out there so I just followed up with that, never been good at predicting salary numbers. Nick Toon is pretty much Justin Durant at WR, if he's healthy he can play. Only with him the price matches.

Not sexy but I like it. SS is weak but we have so many wholes that we can't fix them all in one year

SS isn't even a REAL need IMO. It's a plus if the opportunity or value presents itself. If we get the D line where it needs to be, add some speed to the linebacker level at the very least Ishmael is a solid starter. Heck if we do it the real right way those moves could send him to pro bowl consideration.

Everything I am seeong right now has him going between #25-35.....it is early though - seems a little hopeful, but fair enough.

  • Worrilow and Schraeder are RFA, so both will probably be brought back on a 2nd round tender.

Clayborn will cost more than $1M to bring back - probably more like $3-5M per year.

I'd be worried about cutting William Moore, even if you had drafted a safety.

The draft I like though - Dodd is an out the box pick and I'll be interested to see how he performs throughout the draft season, but if the NC game is anything to go on then he could be a star. Dadi Nicholas is someone who I was really high on going into the year and he kind of disappointed, but he has a high ceiling.

Other than that maybe 4 DT's in one offseason is too much, I'd probably look to go somewhere else in the 3rd and/or 7th.

Moore is a below average SS who is only healthy for half of the year. I would be disappointed if we kept him.

He's not the player he looked like he'd would become after his first few years, but I disagree that he is below average. Regardless, would you cut him without having a viable replacement?

I like it a lot, Cravens is a guy that will slip because of his size, but Deone Bucannon (Cardinals) crafted a position in the NFL and Cravens fits the bill, it's that SS/LB position that just drives offenses nuts. I like your off season, and the numbers on the FA's seem about right. My only problem is with Kevin Dodd, not that you took him, but the fact it says "He's the only pass rusher left", if that's the case, why not go BPA and get a DT, or a LB or anything that's not the scraps ?

I took the best player on the board in my opinion. I probably should have just mocked out the first round its only 17 picks
