Walterfootball's Charlie Campbell's Jan. 15 Three-Round Mock Draft Has Atlanta Selecting:

This pick would terrify me. The dude may turn out to be a late blooming Reggie White for all I know, but minimal production until mid-November of his 4th season of college football is kind of concerning. I get that Clemson lost their entire 2014 Dline to the draft, but Lawson was at least a productive player as a backup. Dodd really came out of nowhere.

I feel the same way, Dodd is a two game wonder. Give me a player with consistent production. No way dude should be considered in the first round.

Third round:

Atlanta Falcons: Jack Allen, C, Michigan State MichiganState_logo.gif

There were several reasons why Matt Ryan struggled this past season. The offensive line was one - specifically, the center position, which was a major liability.

Walt at least has a solid read on our top needs, even if I'm not in love with the picks.

I'm very confident we address center position in free agency - I could see taking (in no particular order) - Ben Jones, Wisneski, Mack, Bergestrom, etc) in free agency and still drafting one late - if Mike Matthews held onto 7th round.

what is interesting is Walterfootball has Shaq Lawson falling all the way to 2nd round (#40) to NY Giants - I just don't see him falling that far - would much rather have him in 2nd than Dodd in 1st - think it is more likely to be the other way around.

40. giantsb_logo.gif New York Giants: Shaq Lawson, DE, Clemson

Whether it was Michael Strahan, or Osi Umenyiora, or Justin Tuck, or a two-handed Jason Pierre-Paul, the Giants always had a terrific pass rush. That's not the case anymore, as the Giants finished in the bottom five in terms of sacks.

By the way, Shaq Lawson has been appearing in the first round of many other mock drafts, but multiple teams we've spoken to have Lawson pegged as a second-day prospect.

Dont pass rushers get gobbled up pretty early? If hes 2nd rd prospect that means IMO whoever said that has 3 maybe 4 guys ahead of him.

it just depends on how many "knocks" are on a guy. Obviously Lawson does not have the speed, Dodd does not have the length of production - guys fall all the time - just look at Greg Hardy, Charles Johnson, Jared Allen, etc. (painful to say that two are current Panthers and one is a former Panther) -- lol.

Yeah, I hope we sign one and draft one. I never want to see Person or Stone at Center again.

17. Atlanta Falcons: Jonathan Allen, DL, Alabama

Atlanta has a lot of needs, with pass rush being the most pressing. The Falcons had the lowest sack total in the NFL with a putrid total of 19 in 2015. Taking a natural sacker to pair with Vic Beasley makes sense.

Allen has played really well in 2015 with 36 tackles with 14.5 for a loss, 12 sacks, two forced fumbles and four passes batted. He totaled 33 tackles with 11.5 for a loss and 5.5 sacks the year before. In a 4-3 scheme, the 6-foot-3, 283-pounder could play end on running downs and move inside in passing situations. He also could serve as a rush linebacker or five-technique defensive end in a 3-4 defense. Allen has some natural pass-rushing skills to him along with quickness and strength.

50. Atlanta Falcons: O.J. Howard, TE, Alabama

The Falcons still need a replacement for Tony Gonzalez. With the decline of Roddy White, the retirement of Gonzalez has been even more painful.

In 2015, Howard had 38 catches for 602 yards and two touchdowns. He totaled 17 receptions for 260 yards in 2014. The talented tight end was very under-utilized. As he proved at USC with Robert Woods and Marqise Lee, Lane Kiffin settles on one receiver and struggles to call plays for anyone else regardless of their talent or mismatch potential. Howard (6-6, 237) flashed big-time potential in 2013. The freshman hauled in 14 passes for 269 yards (19.2 average) with two touchdowns. He was just scratching the surface of his potential.

Howard is a fast and dangerous receiving weapon who has the frame to add size. Sources say Howard still needs to improve his route-running and blocking.

81. Atlanta Falcons: Cody Whitehair, OT/G, Kansas State

The Falcons could use some help on their offensive line, and a blocker like Whitehair would give them some flexibility up front.

Whitehair (6-4, 305) played left tackle for the Wildcats, but he should move to guard in the NFL. Oklahoma State defensive end Emmanuel Ogbah illustrated that. Whitehair also could use more power for the next level, but he is a good technician who is a well-balanced blocker.

Pick change; previously Denver Kirkland, OL

I really like the first and third picks, but that second pick is not going to happen,, we need way to much to take a TE with our second pick.. Nope, that aint happening...
