Saints Will Take A 2Nd Round Pick To Trade H C Sean Payton...

There's one big domino we need to see fall (or not fall) before really moving on with the hustle and bustle of the coaching season: Sean Payton.

The Saints coach's future is still unknown, but according to a report from FOX Sports' Jay Glazer, Payton will meet with New Orleans GM Mickey Loomis on Monday to discuss Payton's fate.

It really is a flat-out coin flip on whether or not Payton is back with the Saints and it may wholly depend on whether or not there's someone out there willing to give up up a second-round pick in exchange for the coach.

That's the very-specific tag attached to Payton's price per Glazer, meaning it's totally possible the Saints would be willing to take that and send their coach somewhere else.

New Orleans is in a tricky spot. Drew Brees has just one year left on his contract and the roster is built such that it appears the Saints could be rebuilding. Getting a second-round pick for a coach who might not want to be part of a rebuild would be a nice score since young players are at a premium.

The 49ers are already attached to rumors surrounding Payton, reportedly willing to pursue him as part of their new coaching search after firing Jim Tomsula on Sunday night.

Typical media crap just like last year, Sean Payton isn't going anywhere, we don't want to get caught with a Quinn type coach in New Orleans.

Quinn improved the defense from 32nd to 14th and had 1 more win than Payton. No the saints don't need a coach like that...laugh.png

Sure, we don't need a coach who's never had a winning season. :)

Or one that had 5 non-winnings seasons...I hope Quinn is never like that!

to get a ring would make me pretty happy for some time. But after the ring if we had 3 consecutive seasons of .500 or less, I would start complaining after the third season of how we just got lucky.

That's what we've been saying about STALE for the last 6 seasons...amirite?

Sean Payton has done well with the offense having a top 3 offense every year for 10 years, it the defense is where he struggles. When the Saints get there defensive rank around midway in the ranking they will be playoff bound. The Falcons defense was rank 14th defense and if thats the case then they have problems elsewhere, you shouldn't have a decent defense and offense and be as bad as they were.

By the time the saints have a competent defense, Brees will have retired. They have fielded some of the worst defenses in NFL history.

So in the past 6 seasons, they have a 13-3 season, 11-5 season, 11-5 season, and 3 7-9 seasons of which one was without the head coach after bounty scandal. If you look a Payton's past 6 seasons, that includes a Super Bowl win, not so stale. On the other hand, how have the Falcons past 6 season gone, they 3 good years they did have, didn't do much postseason, remember 2 points?

NFL, what have you done for me lately. You like mediocrity apparently? 21-27 over the last three seasons with a HOF QB and a STALE HC! We all know he coached that one season from hotel rooms...

I suppose an 18-30 record over the last 3 years is any better lol.

No it's not, but the topic at hand is Sean Payton, not the old Smitty regime. Quinn had more wins than Payton this season.

Both teams were bad this year regardless of who beat who and records, the Saints has the same old problem they have had the past 7 years "defense". The Falcons or a little different they had a top offense/ defense but had to many turnovers at critical momets that cost them games.... The Saints offense is better than the Falcons, but the Falcons defense is leaps better than the Saints.... The Falcons winning streak put false hope and help hide there weakness, Sean Payton exposed some of those weakness in that first game and it snowballed from there......

Both teams need to get back to a respectable position in the NFL, easier for the Saints becasue as long as Brees is there we will always get primetime games.

We had a decent defense so Quinn helped correct things in that department which will only get better. Now what hurt us this season was the rash of offensive turnovers, especially in the redzone which Quinn cannot control. I suspect they will concentrate hard in the off season to alleviate that problem. We should be much improved next season and we have plenty of cap space unlike the saints.

Can you explain why all of a sudden the Falcons offense became a turnover machine in key moments? Most Falcon fans want to pass the blame on the offensive coardinator but I think Matt Ryan has trouble adapting without Mike Smith, Smith is all Ryan knew in the NFL, someone he felt comfrontable with and a system that worked for him. If anything Quinn might ruin Matt Ryan because this shoud be his best years with his experience, Ryan that is, and its not like Quinn was a offensive minded coach in Seattle.

3 reasons:

New system

New center bad exchanges and shotgun snaps

Matty Ice has a down year in new system...still threw for almost 4600 yards

Stale with one of the best offenses in that time span. Where's the STALE on an offensive minded coach? The STALE would have to be on defense.

And Brees is killing it in yards but is supposed to be STALE.

Breesus has been in the same system for 10 years.

Still the problem is the defense. Not the offense. Besides, there is always change year to year.
