By Reading These Boards You Would Think We Wer 0-16

The fact is we finished 8-8 ... Certainly not what most of us had hoped for but not nearly as bad some of you people think we were.

We have a good core group of players who still need a few pieces here and there. We need another full time pass rusher.

We could use a weak side linebacker and maybe a new safety ( either free or strong), On offense we need better interior players..particularly a center. And another wr threat.

That sounds like a lot, but in reality if you look at the nfl on a yearly basis most teams have around a 25-30% attrition at various groups.

Hopefully if Shanny stays he continues to work with the players and the players continue to work with him and everyone can get on the same page.

And hopefully the coaches put a heavy emphasis on not turning the ball over.

We have a good foundation moving forward...no matter how disappointing this season was.

The Falcons are a run-of-the-mill NFL franchise. They have a few good players, a few average players and a fair number of below-average players. With the regression of Matt Ryan to average, it's extremely hard to find anything to feel all hyped up about for next year.

Most of the players Quinn and his staff brought in have done little to nothing, many upholding their reps as always being hurt. Probably going to see the exact same low-budget, grab bag type of players brought in this off-season to replace the current group. So it looks like three to five years of 8-8, 7-9, 9-7 type seasons, then things will likely go downhill from there to absolute bottom-feeder level and we'll be looking for a new HC/GM.

And with Ryan at 36 new QB

The Falcons have maybe 5 players that are worth having, then there is alot of mediocre to crap players. The Falcons may have finished with the second best record in the division, but they are clearly the worst team in the division. This team still needs an overhaul in personnel and scheme IMO. 8-8 doesn't mean ****.

This is the stupidity I am talking about.

5 players??

Ryan had an off year but still threw for 4500+ yards and 20+ tds. He certainly is worth having

Freeman had 1500+ yards from scrimmage and 14 combined td.... he certainly is worth having

Julio.......Well he is Julio

Matthews. has been one of the best LT's in the game this year.

Dimarco has been one of the better fullbacks when he has been used, he has shown to be a good blocker and has shown good hands out of hte backfield.

That is just 5 on offense alone.

It would be different if we went 8-8 and squeezed every bit of effort and talent out that we could.... but in reality we left a good 3 wins on the field this year,,,, at least.

We need some pieces like I stated but we certainly have more than " 5 guys worth having"

I respect your post and appreciate the positive outlook, but my biggest concern is this team did not play up to potential. This team had better talent, athletic ability, and schedule than to be satisfied being 8-8. Hope they can identify and fix whatever is broke during the off season.

ain't nothing broken on this team. the ball just didn't bounce our way this season. the bright side is that there's no way we have that much bad luck two years in a row with a better hold of the scheme on offense. but it's straight comedy looking at all these we're doomed posts

I agree 100%

I am not happy, or satisfied. I am disappointed and upset but I can take a step back and look at the larger picture.

If we cut down our turnovers by even 1/3 we probably win 2 more games..... easily.

I see both sides of this pendulum but I'm going to go optimistic. If we had the Matt Ryan we had the past 7 or so seasons this season, we win at least 2 more games, maybe 3 (TB twice, maybe today, maybe Indy) which puts us at 11-5 or so. We are going to look back at this season of Ryan's career as a historical aberration IMO.

With that being said, yes we did have the easiest SOS from last year's schedules coming into the season and just as we could have won 3 or 4 more games, we easily could have lost 3 or 4 more. Next year it will be harder against the NFC West and AFC East. Here's what I see:

If we can get 2-3 impact players in the draft, a couple more good pickups in free agency, and see improvement from guys like Alford, Hageman, Beasley, Hardy, and Matthews, we are a playoff team. That sounds like a lot but I believe it's feasible. Give Quinn some time to implement his defense, Matt Ryan coming back to earth in 2016 (which I believe will happen), and we are good to go.

Ryan is gonna have a comeback season like Carson Palmer, he's too good to go out like this

I don't care if Ryan passes for 10k in the season...Choking in the playoffs with fumbled snaps in the shotgun, throwing picks and taking sacks and losing all but once in an 8 year span is not anything to brag about. Ryan is a good player, but he is not a clutch player in big games and there is no disputing that.

On offense we have Julio (who is a superstar), Jake Matthews,1 more serviceable to mediocre lineman, Devonta Freeman, then 2 mediocre receivers (Hardy and Williams), Roddy who is aging and on his way out, then what Tamme and the fumbling stumbling Coleman? By my count that's 2 keepers and an overpaid choker of a QB that we have to keep.

On D you got Truant, and arguably Beasley and Jarrett that look like long term keepers. Then you have no safeties that are worth all that much (just projects and warm bodies), no LB's that anybody would go out of their way to get (except for the Falcons), Alford who may continue to improve, but is always good for a costly penalty, an on going project in Hageman, an aging Babineaux and then 2 huge cap eaters in Jackson and Solilai. So by my count that's 3 more keepers and a **** load of mediocre to crap players.

Maybe 5 is too low, but 8 would be too high.

You can embrace mediocrity and say that the team has improved, but the reality is this team is still a ways off from competing for anything that is notable. If you think that a choker of a QB is going to morph into something he hasn't ever been in his previous 8 seasons (like actually winning big games that allow a team to advance in the playoffs), and that the front office is going to finally get it right with the OL and and DL (which they've never done), or that they will finally build a formidable defense next year or even the next, then you might be the stupid one. Just look at all the good players that slip past the Falcons in the draft and in free agency, and then tell me why you are so confident that the Falcons are on the right track. But hey, It's all good, because at the end of the day it's all just entertainment. However, I'm not going to try and convince myself that the team I love is anything short of dumpster fire.

Mike Smith had to deal with more injuries and a harder schedule. We loss at least 4 games we should have won this year and played against 5 back up QBs.

This team used to have an offensive identity but now it doesn't. There is still no pass rush, this team will have a harder schedule next year and probably lose in similar fashion.

I don't agree with that perspective at all. We have missed the playoffs two years in a row and should have made it both times. We have lost the last game each year on our field. We have one division win in a bad division. We can't win at home consistently any more. We have a horrible OC and a coach who is suspect with his in game decisions and clock management. These people are getting paid to do a job and even though someone has to lose each week, penalties, dropped balls, poor decisions, and obvious discord between players and coaches are all unacceptable.
