I Was Really Hoping We Would Run A Wco This Year

But Shanahan is not running a wco. He runs an option offense similar to Chip Kelly and like Chip Kelly did it with an immobile qb. It stopped working for Kelly and stopped working for us also. WCO use short passes to set up the run, we did not do that. We did the opposite. Our qb has excelled with 10-30 yd passes that should have been the backbone of the WCO. Go watch Jerry Rice. That should have been Julio this year.

I would love for them to drop the option stuff and do a real WCO, with or without Shanahan.

PS we need a new center and right guard .

I watched rice as a kid. Rice took 5 yard slants to the house. Montana was not a deep ball thrower. He did it if it was there but he killed the short to intermediate game like Ryan. We run option a few plays a game. Hardly anything to say we run the option. Every version of the WCO has new wrinkles. Andy Reid installed the option in his version of it before shanny was even a coach. Seattle had it Russell' year. It was added to the wco when the read swept the league. It's not just shannahan that utilizes the option out of it. Again, he only uses it a few times a game. It doesn't even crack the 10 percentile of offensive plays run per game.

Y'all have to understand. The game has changed since the Rice/Montana era. Defenses are quicker, faster, hit harder. Rice would out run nearly everyone on the field he played against. Montana's line were "grown men". Now, we have young boys on our lines getting "manhandled". It's a different ball game. Defenses played different schemes back then, now it's totally different.

If you are at the game, focus on our interior OL. Do they provide a clean pocket from which to survey the defense? If not, they are not doing their job and the QB will not be able to complete short passes between the hash marks.
